Kaley Cuoco Struggled With Flight Attendant Love Scene Because Of Big Bang Theory

[ad_1]

Kaley Cuoco’s The Flight Attendant co-star Michiel Huisman reveals she struggled with love scenes in the show because of her Big Bang Theory stint.

Kaley Cuoco’s time on The Big Bang Theory resulted in her struggling with love scenes in The Flight Attendant. The actress played the role of Penny for 12 years and was the only original female lead of the sitcom until Mayim Bialik’s Amy and Melissa Rauch’s Bernie became series regulars in season 4. In more than a decade, the actress mainly devoted her time and effort to the CBS sitcom. Fortunately after The Big Bang Theory ended, Cuoco successfully transitioned out of the Pasadena-set project to The Flight Attendant.

The dark comedy/thriller both stars and is executive produced by Cuoco. The Flight Attendant became a critical hit, with Cuoco even getting a Golden Globe nomination for her performance as the titular character, Cassie Bowden. But it turns out, the actress had some difficulties filming the show, especially her intimate scenes with Michiel Huisman, who played her brief lover, Alex.

Recently appearing on ITV’s This Morning (via The Sun), the actor shared a story about filming The Flight Attendant with Cuoco. As it turns out, the actress didn’t exactly know how to shoot bed scenes, and Huisman, who had a brief stint on Game of Thrones as Daario Naharis, Daenerys’ lover, chalked this up to her long time on The Big Bang Theory:

Of course I didn’t realize, but for some reason she had never done a love scene before, I guess that never happened on The Big Bang Theory. So when we were doing a fairly decent… we’re making out on the bed, under the covers, we’re doing our first scene like that and I noticed she was sort of hovering on top of me, she’s not really sitting on my legs.

After like take three she starts to shake a little bit and I’m like ‘Kaley, what are you doing? Just sit down!’ And it turned out that she was so uncomfortable and she had no idea how to do this thing. She was trying not to touch me.

It’s not technically accurate to say that Cuoco never did a bed scene in The Big Bang Theory. Penny had boyfriends throughout the show, including eventual husband Leonard. The series would occasionally show characters in bed together, though often for more comedic purposes. Of course, a CBS sitcom’s version of a love scene is very different from the HBO Max version, which likely contributed to Cuoco’s initial discomfort. Additionally, since Penny and Leonard were together for so long on The Big Bang Theory, it was probably a big change for Cuoco to suddenly have a different scene partner than Johnny Galecki, especially since the two got very used to working together over the course of the show’s 12 seasons.

Looking back on her time on The Big Bang Theory, Cuoco spent most of her early adult life on the series. It clearly had a huge impact on her career trajectory, making it difficult when it ended. Luckily, Cuoco’s found immense success with The Flight Attendant, an exciting departure of sorts for the actress. Hopefully, the show’s upcoming season 2 proves equally fruitful for Cuoco and viewers.
