Kevin Feige Warns Fans About Their Spider-Man: No Way Home Expectations

[ad_1]

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige warns fans of pinning their hopes on rumors of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Marvel Studios boss, Kevin Feige, warns fans about their expectations that Spider-Man: No Way Home will feature both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Marketing for the film started fairly late, with its first trailer not releasing until late August 2021. Since then, very little has been revealed about the movie, and fans are eager to learn more about it. During this time, rumors also persist that previous iterations of the wall-crawler will indeed appear in the threequel.

Spider-Man: No Way Home’s first trailer was surprisingly liberal with its narrative revelations. It confirms that the story picks up after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Peter Parker is in, arguably, his direst situation after his secret superhero identity is publicly revealed. This not only put him in danger, but also the people he loves. Desperate for help, he reaches out to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). But while the sorcerer was eager to assist him, a tampered spell inadvertently makes things worse for everyone as it exposes Earth to various multiversal threats. This explains the appearance of Spider-Man 2 villain, Doc Ock (Alfred Molina), in the MCU.

Given its multiversal story, fans are holding their hopes up that this leads to the appearance of both Maguire and Garfield in Spider-Man: No Way Home. There’s been no concrete indication that this will happen based on anything official that’s been released about the film, and Feige wants the public to keep their expectations in check regarding the matter. While he admits that some rumors about the film are true in a new interview with Empire (via The Direct), he also says that many of them are simply not true. And, he doesn’t want viewers to be disappointed because they’ve latched on to certain speculations. Read what Feige said below:

“Rumors are fun, because many of them are true, and many of them are not true. The danger is when you get into the expectations game of wanting people to be excited about the movie they get, and not disappointed about a movie they don’t get.”

Tom Holland as Peter Parker in Spider-Man No Way Home

Feige is not wrong here. While there’s still a good chance that the aforementioned actors will be in Spider-Man: No Way Home, there’s also the possibility that they won’t be. If the latter turns out to be true, then those who come to watch the film with an expectation to see either Garfield or Maguire will be sorely disappointed. But, in the event that they’re actually in it, viewers still risk the likelihood of being let down if their involvement turns out to be very minimal. The threequel is already packed as it is; it has to cater to the narrative that Spider-Man: Far From Home built and this new multiversal one. Couple that with the idea that Holland’s Peter could be fighting a variation of the Sinister Six, then there’s really not that much real estate to properly spend time with Garfield and Maguire in the film.

With Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s second trailer on the horizon, it’s curious if it will finally address these ongoing rumors. Although it would be great to save the potential reveal of Garfield and Maguire for the film itself, it’s probably for the best if Sony and Marvel Studios already confirm their involvement (if they are) through marketing. This way, the conversation about the film can move forward to more interesting things.
