Marvel’s Eros & Pip The Troll Creator Reacts to Eternals’ Credits Scene

[ad_1]

Most fans were surprised to see Pip the Troll and Eros join the MCU in Eternals’ end-credits scene, and their creator Jim Starlin was too.

Jim Starlin, the comics writer behind Eros and Pip the Troll, reacts to their Eternals post-credits scene. The MCU’s most recent cinematic release, Eternals, debuted exclusively in theaters back in early November and introduced audiences to a new kind of Marvel film. Directed by Chloé Zhao, Eternals tells a story that spans thousands of years and features a wide cast of cosmic beings with incredible abilities. The titular team was sent to Earth several millenniums ago, tasked with protecting humanity from the Deviants. When those evil creatures resurface in the present day, the Eternals reunite to complete their mission once and for all.

Of course, Eternals wouldn’t be a Marvel movie if it didn’t also lay the groundwork for future installments, and it did just that with its two end-credits scenes. The first introduced a pair of MCU newcomers: Pip the Troll (played with motion capture by Patton Oswalt) and Eros, aka Starfox (Harry Styles), the brother of Thanos and Marvel’s version of the god of love. Styles’ casting was spoiled before Eternals even premiered when word got out online right after it was first screened for critics at the tail end of October.

It was then that Starlin, who brought Pip, Eros, and several other Marvel characters to life, found out about his characters’ inclusion in Eternals. Speaking to THR, Starlin said he was unable to make it to the Eternals premiere, so he found out about the end-credits scene with much of the rest of the world the following morning, when the news spread across social media. Starlin tried to find official images of Pip and Eros, but came up empty. Talking about his reaction to Pip being brought into the MCU, Starlin had this to say:

“He’s [Marvel president Kevin Feige] probably been laughing up his sleeve at me knowing that Pip was on the way, every time I bugged him about putting Pip in the movies.

“He’s an alcoholic, cigar-smoking, gambling, womanizing degenerate. Probably the most immoral character I’ve ever created. He even beats out Thanos on the immorality department. Thanos at least is running on his own moral code, which Pip banned years before.”

Pip and Starfox only had a short window in Eternals to make an impression on fans, but there’s already interest in seeing what they will do next in the MCU. Eros has drawn plenty of excitement thanks to Styles’ casting, but Pip the Troll is an intriguing prospect as well. As Starlin pointed out, he isn’t a shining example of the MCU’s favored brand of heroism, and that should make for some wild developments later on. It isn’t quite clear where Pip and Eros will be seen next, but the as of yet unannounced Eternals 2 feels like a solid candidate.

Starlin also shared his opinion on Will Poulter’s casting as Adam Warlock for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, saying he trusts Marvel’s judgement. As he also helped create Thanos and several members of the Guardians, Starlin has left an incredible mark on the MCU, and his presence will continue to be felt as the franchise moves forward. Eternals is just the start of Pip and Eros, and hopefully Starlin will approve of what the future holds for his creations.
