MCU: 10 Memes That Perfectly Sum Up Wanda & Pietro’s Relationship

[ad_1]

Although it remains unclear about the Scarlet Witch’s fate in the MCU, Elizabeth Olsen recently commented about hopes for an X-Men MCU crossover. In the comics, Scarlet Witch is the daughter of the infamous mutant, Magneto, so with the mutants making their way into the universe, many fans wonder what this could imply for the powerful witch if she did indeed survive the events in Doctor Strange 2.

While she has become a prominent character in Phase 4, Wanda Maximoff was first introduced in Avengers: Age Of Ultron alongside her twin brother, Pietro Maximoff. Pietro didn’t survive Ultron’s attacks, which became a trigger point for Wanda and her tragic arc. Since his death, Pietro has featured in Wanda’s nightmares and character development, leading to fans turning to memes to cope with their emotions.

Forgotten Brother

WandaVision focused a lot on Wanda’s trauma, specifically how she was coping after Vision’s death. As a result, Wanda created her twin boys to cope with her loss and expand her family.

While WandaVision was focused on bringing some part of Vision back, the entirety of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness saw her trying to get her boys back. However, fans were quick to note how she seemingly forgot about her brother, who served as a major plot point for her first few MCU appearances.

It’s Been A Long Time

By the time Pietro Maximoff was mentioned in WandaVision‘s “We Interrupt This Program,” it had been years that anyone had referenced him since his first (and only) appearance in the MCU. While he was never officially known as Quicksilver in the MCU, due to copyright issues with FOX and the X-Men, fans always knew that his character was meant to be revealed as a mutant in the universe.

It had been so long since his name was dropped, and fans wondered if Marvel had forgotten about him together. In particular, Wanda also has a similar reaction when she hears her brother’s name, reminiscing about him and bringing forth a sad moment for the tragic hero.

Long Lost Siblings (And Accents)

Wanda and Pietro come from a fictional city, Sokovia, in central-southeastern Europe. When they’re first introduced in the MCU, they both speak with Sokovian accents.

However, seemingly overnight, Wanda’s accent vanishes. This is addressed in WandaVision in a humorous attempt to break the third wall and acknowledge the question fans have been asking for years about Wanda’s accent. And given Pietro’s appearance in WandaVision, fans and Wanda also noticed that he lost his Sokovian accent, although he ended up being an actor acting as him.

Wanda Showing No Thought For Poor Pietro

There seems to be a similar theme with Pietro being forgotten by Wanda. While Wanda is wrecking the multiverse and doing everything in her power to bring her boys back, fans were quick to comment on her blatant ignorance when it came to her brother.

There have been several memes and tweets about Pietro watching Wanda in disbelief and disappointment as she does everything for her children, but nothing for the brother she knew and loved for years. Pietro was crucial in Wanda’s early character development, yet fans always inquire if there will be a proper way to discuss him in the MCU.

Pietro The Third Wheel

While fans have been missing Pietro, many fans have thought about what could have happened if Pietro had seen Wanda and Vision together. There have been several suggestions that Pietro would constantly make jokes about the two and find himself as the third wheel all the time because of his close sibling dynamic with Wanda.

Pietro never got a chance to see what Wanda and Vision were like as a couple, but given his short appearance in Age Of Ultron, viewers believe he’d be annoying, yet well-meaning, about the relationship, even if he was a little grossed out by it.

Wanda Realizes That “Pietro” Is An Imposter

Both fans and Wanda were thrilled when they saw Evan Peters return as Quicksilver in WandaVision. However, fans were quick to realize that he was not in fact Peter/Pietro Maximoff, but instead an entirely unrelated character.

It became one of the most disappointing moments in the MCU, and fans were quick to turn to memes to express their disappointment at a wasted opportunity and casting choice. They pointed out how quickly Wanda realized that he wasn’t her brother and anticipated her response upon concluding that her beloved twin brother was still dead.

Different Memories

WandaVision gave viewers an insight into Wanda and Pietro’s childhood, and how differently the twins seemed to view their early years. Wanda often talks at length about her trauma at almost dying at the hands of Stark’s bombs, whereas Pietro’s past is much more secretive.

The limited access viewers have had to Pietro’s childhood shows how differently he remembers it. However, Pietro in Wandavision was a clear imposter, which likely contributed to the difference in their childhood memories. Nonetheless, taking Clint’s iconic scene from The Avengers, fans have shown how the conversation between the twins might have gone when they would talk about their childhood.

Wanda Failing To Use Her Powers To Bring Pietro

It’s been established multiple times that Wanda is one of the most powerful characters in the MCU. While this has made for great storytelling and character development, fans couldn’t help but notice one flaw in her powers.

Wanda is seemingly able to bring people back from the dead, yet there is no mention of her attempting to bring her brother back. Again, this could be due to the copyright issues Marvel was having with the X-Men (at the time), but fans have poked fun at it nonetheless.

Wanda Losing Too Many Loved Ones

Wanda dealt with more heartbreak than most MCU characters. She lost her parents, then her twin, and then her true love. After Pietro’s death in Age Of Ultron, fans thought it couldn’t possibly get worse for Wanda.

Things, however, quickly got worse. Not only did Vision die in Avengers: Infinity War, but Wanda had to kill him herself. Vision technically has two deaths in the movie, one at the hands of Thanos and the other at the hand of Wanda. If Pietro’s death wasn’t bad enough, Wanda also had to live without Vision.

Pietro’s Death

One of the most shocking moments early on in WandaVision was when Geraldine mentioned Pietro, referencing his death at Ultron’s hands.

Not only were the viewers stunned into silence, but so was Wanda as she quickly turned and attacked Geraldine. Many viewers hadn’t heard his name in years, and clearly Wanda wasn’t ready to talk about the death of her twin quite yet. Hearing his name activated something in Wanda, which likely brought her right back to Sokovia and likely took it personally.
