M&M’s Spokescandies Are Reinstated After Weird Maya Rudolph Interlude

[ad_1]

The M&M’s spokescandies are reinstated after it was previously announced that SNL alum Maya Rudolph would be taking over following online controversy.

M&M’s has reinstated their classic mascots after having Maya Rudolph take the helm for a brief period. The brand has typically promoted their candy-coated chocolate treats with anthropomorphic M&M’s, which have appeared in various ads including many pre-show commercials at various movie theaters. The Saturday Night Live alum was announced to be replacing them earlier this year.

Following a bizarre ad in which Rudolph promoted chocolate-covered clam candies, M&M’s released another commercial reinstating their classic mascots.

Designed to look like a typical post-Super Bowl press conference, the ad spot sees the iconic candies lined up together for an interview. A relieved red M&M exclaims “I can’t believe we were actually put on pause” as they celebrate being back for good.

This passing of the baton originated when the M&M’s redesigned their mascots. Included in the new design was featuring the green M&M – who presents female – swapping out her high heels for flats. This drew ire from various factions across the Internet.

M&M’s announced that Rudolph would replace the spokescandies in late January 2023. This led to a variety of bizarre ad spots featuring the comic actor’s typically kooky approach. One such ad involved the star changing the name of the iconic candy to Ma & Ya’s, which was reflected in the company’s new handle across various social media platforms.

This move was something of an indication that M&M’s wasn’t exactly taking the switch seriously. They doubled down on the joke with their clam candy Super Bowl ad, which also featured the red M&M bearing a sign that reads “HELP!” in the background, as if Rudolph had kidnapped them. So, it hardly came as a surprise when the spokescandies were reinstated, revealing the whole affair to be a publicity stunt like Planters killing off Mr. Peanut in 2020.
