Amazon and BBC are reportedly working on The Night Manager season 2 and 3, with Tom Hiddleston set to return as protagonist Jonathan Pine.

The Night Manager may be returning for season 2 and 3, with Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Jonathan Pine. Based on John le Carré’s 1993 novel of the same name, The Night Manager follows Pine, a former British soldier, who is recruited by a task force from the Foreign Office to infiltrate the operations of Richard Roper, and arms dealer played by Hugh Laurie. The series was praised upon release for its suspenseful story and faithfulness to le Carré’s original novel.

What Will The Night Manager Season 2 & 3 Be About?

It’s unclear how The Night Manager‘s story will continue into season 2 and 3, as season 1 of the show was a complete adaptation of le Carré’s book. The series ended with Laurie’s Richard being arrested by the police, only for enraged buyers within his arms deal syndicate to capture him, seemingly dooming him to whatever fate they have in store for him. Jonathan goes back to his old life as a night manager, leaving very few loose ends to the show’s story. However, with Richard’s fate still left unknown, it’s possible that he could make his return in The Night Manager season 2.

As the series won’t have any direction from le Carré’s novel, future seasons of The Night Manager could see Jonathan returning to do more assignments from British government agencies. Season 2 filming parts in South America may mean a more global story for The Night Manager‘s future seasons. While season 1 focused mostly on Europe, outside a few sequences in Egypt and the Middle East, The Night Manager season 2 could expand Jonathan’s assigned tasks to raise the stakes of its newest season.

The Night Manager season 2 and 3 could also pull elements from other le Carré novels, using his other espionage stories as inspiration. While this wouldn’t make future seasons of the show direct adaptations of other stories by le Carré, they could be used as jumping-off points for any other assignments Jonathan is tasked with. Despite the long wait for more episodes, The Night Manager season 2 and 3 have the potential to build on season 1’s story while also going in its own direction.
