Pokémon GO: How To Find (& Catch) Shiny Gastly

Pokémon GO is giving players another chance to find and catch a Shiny Gastly. This guide will show players all the different ways they can find it.

Capturing and finding a Shiny Gastly can be incredibly difficult in Pokemon Go. Fortunately, the game is offering players a chance to increase their odds of finding it. Every week, Pokemon Go hosts a Spotlight Hour event. During this time period, a specific Pokemon will have its spawn rate increased substantially. This is the perfect chance for players to capture tons of different versions of that Pokemon, more XP and Stardust, and more candy that can be used for evolution or powering up. October will feature Spotlight Hours for Drifloon, Gothita, Murkrow, and Gastly.

Gastly did have a Community Day event in the past, and this was the last best time to find its Shiny form. Shiny Pokemon don’t really do anything outside of having different color variations for their design. The real appeal comes with randomly encountering these Pokemon while playing the game or specifically hunting them down. Gastly Spotlight Hour will take place on October 12th from 6 pm to 7 pm local time. Each Pokemon Go Spotlight Hour also comes with an additional bonus. This time around, players will be able to earn x2 the Stardust for capturing this Pokemon.

While the Shiny Odds are not increased during Spotlight Hour, it’s still possible for players to find a Shiny Gastly. There are a few things players can do to increase their chances. It’s a combination of preparing for the event and doing things the day of.

How To Find Shiny Gastly in Pokemon Go

• Escape Battle: When the player comes across a regular Gastly, just run and try and encounter the next one. Running will save time between encounters, increasing the player’s chances of finding a Shiny Gastly.
• The Fast Catch Trick: This is a method that allows players to skip the Pokeball capture animation. This will also save time between encounters. It might take a bit of time to get used to, but learning it is vital for saving time.
• Star Piece: This item doubles the number of Stardust collected by players. Use this item during the event to bring it up to x4.
• Candy Hunting: This is great for players looking to Mega Evolve their Gengar. Gathering tons of candy can help make Gengar stronger, even its Shiny form.

Gastly is only the second Pokemon to have a Spotlight Hour in Pokemon Go for October. Gothita will take over the following week. Gastly is insanely popular and will likely have another event tied to it in the future. With October events approaching, it’s only a matter of time before the game reveals its full plans for a Halloween event. This will likely be another chance to find a Shiny Gastly.
