Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: Walking Wake Tera Raid Guide
Walking Wake is the new ancient Paradox Pokémon released exclusively for Pokémon Scarlet on Pokémon Day running until March 12, 2023 in Tera Raids.
The new Ancient Paradox Pokémon, Walking Wake in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, is obtainable through Tera Raids in Pokémon Scarlet starting on February 27th, 2023, and ending on March 12th, 2023. It resembles one of Johto’s legendary beasts, Suicune, and has similar typing and base stats. Furthermore, Walking Wake gains a new signature move Hydro Steam which can do severe damage through Rain and Sun battle weather conditions. However menacing as this initially may sound, this raid is relatively easy to tackle since it is within the 5-Star tier rating.
To get this Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Tera Raid started, trainers do not need Nintendo Switch Online to catch Walking Wake. However, players must first update their games to Version 1.2.0, which releases the Pokémon into the game. After updating, connect to the internet and go to the Poké Portal News. Trainers playing Pokémon Scarlet can return to their game maps and see a Water-type Tera Raid. This Pokémon can only be caught once but can be fought against multiple times for various rewards.
Walking Wake’s Weaknesses
Whether deciding to solo the Walking Wake raid or take it down with a friend, trainers should know what to look out for. Walking Wake easily becomes one of the best dual-type Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet, with Water- and Dragon-typing; however, for this raid, it is only Water-type.
Its original weaknesses are limited to Fairy- and Dragon-type moves while its many resistances are Steel-, Fire-, and Water-type.
Furthermore, due to its new move Hydro Steam and the ability Protosynthesis, Sun weather condition does not hinder it and actually enhances its power. According to Bulbapedia, Hydro Steam’s base power is 120 in the sun. Other moves it will use during the Tera Raid battle are Noble Roar, Dragon Pulse, Flamethrower, and Sunny Day.
How To Beat Walking Wake
On the first turn of the Walking Wake Tera Raid battle, a Sunny Day will activate almost immediately. This trigger’s Walking Wake’s Protosynthesis, raising its highest stat much like the best Koraidon builds in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Walking Wake will then start to use its powerful moves against the trainer, which will have increased power due to the sun. Walking Wake will nullify its opponent’s ability and stat changes when it reaches about half of its total HP. The trainer should cheer immediately to boost their own Pokémon’s stats or health.

Meowscarada |
Flower Trick, Grassy Terrain, Giga Drain, Frenzy Plant/Leaf Storm |
Iron Hands |
Belly Drum, Electric Terrain, Drain Punch, Thunder Punch |
Annihilape |

For Walking Wake’s Water-type Tera Raids, in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, consider Pokémon that can use strong Grass- and Electric-type moves. However, be advised when using Grass-type Pokémon themselves because of its dangerous Flamethrower attack. The best Meowscarada build is a great example to use during this raid because of its access to the ability Protean and move Flower Trick. Another ideal attacker is Iron Hands, due to its abilities like Belly Drum and Thunder Punch, capable of one-hit knocking out Walking Wake. Finally, due to Walking Wake’s move Noble Roar, a Pokémon with the ability Defiant like Annihilape can deal tremendous damage with a boosted physical attack stat from the opposite effect of stat lowering moves.
