Pokémon TCG: Top 10 Most Expensive VMAX Pokémon Cards

[ad_1]

The Pokémon Trading Card Game‘s VMAX Pokémon cards are flashy and powerful, and some of the best demand a high price. Building a collection already involves a lot of luck when it comes to sifting through packs or finding auctions for a specific card. When the card in question also has an astronomical price tag, it can be quite a shock to discover.

VMAX Pokémon are a unique type of card in the Pokémon TCG that represents the Dynamaxed form of the Pokémon in question. They are more often than not remarkably powerful, with incredible HP totals and attacks that can inflict massive amounts of damage. The downside of VMAX Pokémon is that when they are knocked out, the opponent draws three prize cards instead of one, letting them take a major leap towards victory. The Pokémon Trading Card Game‘s VMAX Pokémon have a heavy risk involved due to their prize card penalty, but used properly, they can be lethally effective.

10 Evolving Skies Sylveon VMAX (Alternate Art Secret Rare) – $140

Sylveon VMAX from the Pokémon Trading Card Game, with the Dynamaxed Sylveon in the center surrounded by other Eeveelutions.

Sylveon VMAX’s art looks more like a festival than a battle, giving the card a pleasant appeal, but its moves are remarkably effective. Precious Touch grants an energy card to a benched Pokémon while healing a massive amount of damage, and Max Harmony is a strong move that gets stronger with every type on the user’s bench. It’s also a Rapid Strike card, and can interact with other cards from that archetype. Equipped with one of the best healing abilities one can find in the Pokémon TCG, Sylveon VMAX goes for around $140 according to TCGPlayer (at the time of writing).

9 Prize Pack Series One Espeon VMAX – $142

Espeon VMAX from the Pokémon Trading Card Game, with the featured Pokémon in front of a swirling, technicolor cosmic background.

Due to its power, Espeon has always been one of the favorite Eeveelutions in Pokémon, and Espeon VMAX does not disappoint its reputation. This impressive psychic specimen can block all effects of opponents’ attacks aside from damage from affecting any of the user’s Pokémon, provided they have energy cards. Speaking of energy, its Max Mindstorm inflicts 60 damage for every energy card attached to any of the opponent’s Pokémon. This severely punishes the opponent for being prepared and keeping their Pokémon battle-ready. Espeon VMAX has a market price of $142, as recounted by TCGPlayer, but its sale prices appear to have dropped rapidly through February 2023.

8 Evolving Skies Glaceon VMAX (Alternate Art Secret Rare) – $145

Glaceon VMAX from the Pokémon Trading Card Game, with art showing the Glaceon standing on a lake, the water frozen under its feet.

Glaceon VMAX’s art depicts a scene at a scenic lake, making peaceful artwork something of a theme for VMAX Eeveelution cards in the Pokémon TCG. Glaceon VMAX has good reason to be relaxed, as its Crystal Veil ability makes it immune to all damage from opposing VMAX Pokémon aside from other Glaceons. That combined with its high HP and powerful Max Icicle can make Glaceon VMAX a tough Pokémon to take down, which can help to keep opponents away from their triple prize reward. A Glaceon VMAX card can run a collector around $145 according to TCGPlayer.

7 Evolving Skies Leafeon VMAX (Alternate Art Secret Rare) – $160

Leafeon VMAX from the Pokémon Trading Card Game, with the Leafeon rolling a bale of hay.

Leafeon VMAX has one of the more amusing artworks of any VMAX Pokémon, showing Leafeon examining a hay bale like a kitten playing with a ball of yarn. In terms of performance, its Grass Knot is a rather unique move that relies on the opponent’s retreat cost to determine damage, making it memorable for that alone. Max Leaf is nothing to laugh at either, healing itself while dealing intense damage. Combining art cuter than the cutest starter Pokémon in the series with impressive power, the quirky Leafeon VMAX will cost around $160 according to TCGPlayer.

6 Fusion Strike Gengar VMAX (Alternate Art Secret Rare) – $167

Gengar VMAX from the Pokémon Trading Card Game, where the giant Gengar has its mouth open and is inhaling a number of berry trees.

Gengar’s Gigantamax form makes for a scary card, and Gengar VMAX seeks to live up to its scary looks. Its Fear and Panic attack works to punish the opponent for using powerful Pokémon, increasing in damage based on the Pokémon V and Pokémon GX they have active. Failing that, its G-Max Swallow Up deals an absurd 250 damage at the cost of forfeiting the chance to attack the following turn. TCGPlayer states that Gengar VMAX has a market price around $167, but some sales going for over $200, a high price for such a scary, menacing Ghost-type Pokémon.

5 Chilling Reign Blaziken VMAX (Alternate Art Secret Rare) – $168

Blaziken VMAX from the Pokémon Trading Card Game, with Blaziken towering over a building that has a Sobble, Drizzle, and Iteleon standing on the roof.

Blaziken VMAX is the beneficiary of some excellent art direction, with the card depicting it as a martial arts-themed, Godzilla-styled monster. Just like the monster its art makes it appear to be, Blaziken VMAX can ensure its opponent’s destruction with Clutch, preventing them from retreating while dealing damage. Max Blaze is also an excellent energy recycling tool, moving Energy Cards from the discard pile directly to Pokémon on the bench, ready to be used again right away. This powerful fighter will cost players roughly $168 according to information from TCGPlayer.

4 Vivid Voltage Pikachu VMAX (Secret Rare) – $171

Pikachu VMAX from the Pokémon Trading Card Game, with a large, rainbow-colored Pikachu that takes up the entire card.

There have been a lot of valuable Pikachu cards over the course of the Pokémon Trading Card Game‘s existence, and Pikachu VMAX is one of them, though not even close to being among the Pokémon TCG‘s most expensive Pikachu cards. This big rainbow Pikachu only has one move at its disposal, but it’s a terrifying option. By removing all of Pikachu VMAX’s energy cards, G-Max Volt Tackle will deal an astounding 270 damage, enough to knock out almost any opponent in a single blow. According to TCGPlayer, this Pikachu VMAX goes for prices exceeding $170.

3 Champion’s Path Charizard VMAX (Secret Rare) – $193

Charizard VMAX from the Pokémon Trading Card Game, with a large rainbow-colored Charizard filling the entire face of the card.

The massive, rainbow Charizard VMAX from the Champion’s Path expansion features amazing artwork while taking a few cues from a classic card. With enough firepower to take out almost anything that isn’t another VMAX Pokémon, its G-Max Wildfire is essentially a ramped-up version of the Pokémon TCG‘s classic Base Set Charizard card’s Fire Spin. The biggest difference between the two is that VMAX Charizard can actually attack without sacrificing energy thanks to Claw Slash. It also mimics Base Set Charizard by being expensive, costing upwards of $193, as reported by TCGPlayer.

2 Evolving Skies Rayquaza VMAX (Alternate Art Secret Rare) – $282

Rayquaza VMAX from the Pokémon Trading Card Game, with the Dynamaxed Rayquaza flying over a forest.

The first thing of note about Rayquaza VMAX is that its ability, Azure Pulse, is essentially a smaller version of the Professor Oak card. The main difference is that it only draws 3 cards rather than 7 after discarding the hand. However, the best thing about Rayquaza VMAX is easily its art depicting the legendary dragon soaring majestically over a jungle, a piece worthy of one of the best Legendary Pokémon from any generation. It’s a memorable card for that alone, and one that any collector would benefit from having. TCGPlayer gives Rayquaza VMAX’s running price as a lofty $282, though some listings are well over $300.

1 Evolving Skies Umbreon VMAX (Alternate Art Secret Rare) – $542

Umbreon VMAX from the Pokémon Trading Card Game, where the Umbreon is clinging to a tower and reaching up toward the full moon.

A lot of VMAX Eeveelutions fetch a high price tag, and Umbreon VMAX from Evolving Skies is no exception. It has access to an underhanded move with its Dark Signal ability, allowing it to swap the opponent’s active Pokémon upon evolution to drag out a weak or weakened foe to take down with Max Darkness. Despite its immense power and devious ability, its art is nothing less than adorable, featuring a giant Umbreon reaching out at the moon. With TCGPlayer reporting its price as $542 (with some listings expected to sell at prices over $600), Umbreon VMAX is the most expensive VMAX Pokémon in the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
