Scarlett Johansson’s 6-Year-Old Daughter Recognized Her In Home Alone 3

Scarlett Johansson reveals that when she watched Home Alone 3 with her daughter, she correctly guessed that her mom was on the screen.

Scarlett Johansson recently watched Home Alone 3 with her daughter, Rose Dorothy, and the 6-year-old recognized her mom in the film, but she did need some prompting. In addition to Johansson, Home Alone 3 stars Alex D. Linz as Alex Pruitt, an 8-year-old boy who gets his hands on a $10 million microchip hidden inside a remote control car. A group of villainous spies break into the Pruitt household to recover the chip, but in true Home Alone fashion, Alex sets up booby traps throughout the house to thwart the spies.

Released in 1997, Home Alone 3 is the first movie in the classic franchise not to star Macaulay Culkin and the rest of the cast from the initial two movies. Home Alone 3 is one of Johansson’s first movies, and at the time of filming, she was only five years older than her daughter is now. In the family comedy, Johansson played Molly Pruitt, the main character’s older sister.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Johansson talked about how she and her daughter utilized a snow day to bond through watching ‘90s flicks. Rose Dorothy loved the first two Home Alone movies, so naturally, they moved on to the third. Johansson didn’t tell her daughter about her role in the movie at first, she just hoped the 6-year-old would come to the conclusion on her own. Johansson’s description of what happened when she appeared on screen can be read below:

I just wanted her to make the discovery. Of course, she didn’t because how can an 11-year-old me remind her of me now? And I said, ‘Who’s that person?!’ She was like, ‘You?’

Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff in Black Widow

Not only has Johansson consistently worked since booking Home Alone 3, she has also gone on to become one of the most talented and sought-after actors in the industry. In 2020, Johansson received two Academy Award nominations at the same time for her lead role in Marriage Story and her supporting role in Jojo Rabbit. She has also become a superhero, playing Natasha Romanoff, also known as Black Widow, in several Marvel movies throughout the last decade. Johansson is slated to star in a Marvel movie of her own, aptly titled, Black Widow, which will released on July 9.

Unlike Home Alone 3, Johansson’s Marvel movies do not have PG ratings; they are instead rated PG-13. This likely indicates that Johansson’s daughter is still a few years away from watching her mom help save the universe as Black Widow. By then, Rose Dorothy should definitely be able to recognize Johansson on screen, and maybe it will inspire her to follow in her mom’s footsteps to become an actor as well. It’s also possible that she might’ve already gotten a bite from the acting bug after watching Home Alone 3. Rose Dorothy wouldn’t be the first child of an actor to join the same industry as their parent. Laura Dern and Kate Hudson are just two examples of many to become successful actors in their own right. For now, though, Rose Dorothy’s main job should just be to be a kid, and also maybe a taste tester for Snow Days, the organic pizza bites brand for which Johansson is now the creative director.
