Scream Video Compiles Ghostface Wipeouts To Mock Horror’s Clumsiest Slasher

A Scream video hilariously compiles every time Ghostface has been beaten up in the horror franchise, set to the tune of “It’s the Hard-Knock Life.”

A new Scream video highlights just how many times Ghostface has been beaten up. The Scream franchise, which began in 1996, has now expanded to include five films and an upcoming sixth. Rather than being a consistent killer, Ghostface is a mantle worn by various killers throughout the series, all using the same iconic mask and voice-changing device, played by Roger L. Jackson.

On Twitter, a Ghostface parody account shared a fan-made video compiling various clips of the killer being beaten up by potential victims.

All of these various beatings, seen in the video above, are synchronized to the beat of the Annie song “It’s the Hard-Knock Life.” Included among the collection are Tatum (Rose McGowan) hitting Ghostface with a refrigerator door in Scream 1996, Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) smacking the killer in Scream 2, and Cotton Weary (Liev Schreiber) overturning a bookcase in Scream 3.

Every Ghostface Killer Explained

The original Ghostface in Scream was actually two killers, Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) and Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard), who sought to create a slasher movie of their own. While Billy was seeking revenge for his perception that final girl Sidney Prescott’s (Neve Campbell) mother broke up his family, Stu was simply along for the ride. Scream 2 also featured a revenge killing, with Billy’s mother (Laurie Metcalf) teaming up with film student Mickey (Timothy Olyphant) to wreak more havoc on Sidney and her friends.

Sidney’s family members continued to haunt her, as her secret brother Roman (Scott Foley) stalked her in Scream 3 and her niece Jill (Emma Roberts) attempted to recreate her path to fame in Scream 4 along with her accomplice Charlie (Rory Culkin). Scream 2022 saw a new final girl Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) being stalked by her boyfriend Richie (Jack Quaid) and his accomplice Amber (Mikey Madison) in an attempt to reboot the Stab franchise properly. Although the killers were all entirely different, they all used the Ghostface M.O. either to taunt Sidney or engage with the Stab franchise, which is inspired by the previous killings.

Why Ghostface’s Fallibility Makes the Scream Franchise Even Scarier

When the films show Ghostface being beaten up, it actually increases the tension of the Scream film franchise in two ways. The first is showing that, if a potential victim fights hard enough, they could get away, giving the audience hope for their survival that is usually dashed. Second, showing that Ghostface isn’t invulnerable highlights the fact that the killer is human and fallible, making the choice to kill rather than being driven by an evil force, which can end up being much creepier. It will be interesting to see how threatening the new killer or killers prove heading into Scream 6‘s March 10 release.
