Star Wars Reveals Final Fate Of Major Clone Wars Villains

Thanks to the rise of the Empire, the fate of a major Separatist faction from the Clone Wars has been confirmed in Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

The final fate of major villains from Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been further confirmed in the Star Wars galaxy. Following the end of the Clone Wars and the rise of the Empire from the ashes of the Republic, Emperor Palpatine dispatched his new apprentice Darth Vader to wipe out the Separatist leaders who’d been hiding on the world of Mustafar in Revenge of the Sith. However, The Bad Batch spin-off series from The Clone Wars has revealed new insights into what became of one of the core Separatist factions.

In Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 2, episode 10, the struggling Clone Force 99 attempts to retrieve their ship after it had been stolen on a remote mining world in the Outer Rim. Upon locating the thief and enlisting his help to reclaim their ship, the Bad Batch encounters a massive operation run by the Mining Guild. However, it’s also revealed that this particular refinery once belonged to the Techno Union, a major member of the Separatist Alliance during the Clone Wars era.

As seen in Attack of the Clones, Foreman Wat Tambor secretly pledged the Techno Union’s loyalty to Count Dooku and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. A conglomeration of various technology firms, the Techno Union was responsible for several of the Separatists’ droid forces and weapons. However, they still managed to retain their public neutrality and had seats in the Republic Senate as well. Despite backing the Separatist movement, they sold just as many armaments to the Republic as they did to the CIS.

It’s also worth noting that Wat Tambor and his fellow Skakoan leaders of the Techno Union were directly responsible for the brutal experimentation on Clone ARC Trooper Echo. This led to his transformation into a partial cyborg, where they used his mind against his will to help the Separatist droid army combat the Republic’s clones at a higher level of efficiency. However, he was ultimately rescued by the Bad Batch during The Clone Wars, an act that led to Echo joining Clone Force 99 by the war’s end and on into the spin-off series.

What Happened To The Techno-Union In Star Wars

It’s been revealed that the Techno Union was absorbed into the Empire following the death of Wat Tambor at the hands of Darth Vader. Specifically, the Union’s mining operations were handed over to the Mining Guild, with figures such as the criminally corrupt Mokko taking over as seen in The Bad Batch. According to the thief Benni, the Techno Union had been forcibly driven out by the Empire.

This is in line with what’s known about the Techno Union from other canon materials, such as the ongoing Darth Vader comic. The Dark Lord not only slew Wat Tambor’s son, who attempted to take over operations, but Vader’s also been at war with Tambor’s grandson, Jul, who’s seeking to free the Union world of Skako Minor from the Empire’s control following the events of The Empire Strikes Back. Although there were still some small holdouts after Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the Empire effectively decimated the Techno Union, a Separatist faction that was once one of the most powerful conglomerates in the Star Wars galaxy.
