Starfire’s Titans Season 4 Story Calls Out A Huge Trigon Problem

[ad_1]

The problem of Starfire’s failure to live up to her destiny and fight Trigon in Titans season 1 was referenced in Titans season 4’s story.

Warning: SPOILERS for Titans season 4.One of the major problems with Titans‘ season 1 finale and how Starfire failed to have any effect on the fight against Trigon was referenced in Titans‘ season 4. Starfire was far from alone in this, as the decision to alter Titans‘ story in post-production and extend the battle with Trigon into Titans season 2 made many characters’ storylines completely pointless. Yet Starfire’s failure was all the more glaring, given the importance that Titans season 1 placed upon her traveling to Earth to avert Trigon’s manifestation.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The problems with Starfire’s storyline were called out in Titans season 4, episode 5, “Inside Man,” when Starfire’s mentor Zadira appears in a mystic vision to further advise Starfire on her destiny. Zadira warns her that the prophecy regarding Trigon’s arrival might still be satisfied with Sebastian Sanger, prompting Starfire to claim that she fulfilled her mission since Raven defeated Trigon and the prophecy was averted. Zadira denies this, however, noting that Stafire did nothing to alter Raven’s battle with Trigon and that she was just “a spectator to destiny running its course.” This echoed viewer complaints about Starfire’s story in Titans season 1 being ultimately pointless.

Thankfully, the producers of Titans seem to have acknowledged that the series has failed Starfire as a character and have taken steps to address the problem in Titans season 4. One way it did this was by improving the quality of her scenes, with Titans’ season 4 premiere including an impressive moment in which Starfire confronted Lex Luthor and held her own against Superman’s archenemy. Before that, Starfire’s warrior skills were showcased as she fought her way past Luthor’s security detail without using her powers. That, plus the promise that Starfire will finally gain the power to fly this season, has many fans hopeful for Titans‘ future.

Starfire Wasn’t The Only Casualty Of Season 1’s Finale Changes

It should be noted that Starfire was just one of many failing to contribute to the battle against Trigon. This was largely due to an 11th-hour decision to change Titans‘ season 1 finale in post-production, with the long-teased battle with Trigon delayed until Titans season 2 and the planned finale replaced with an episode devoted to a Dick Grayson dream sequence. This made Nightwing and Donna Troy’s inclusion in the battle as worthless as Starfire’s.

The only aspect of Titans season 1 finale more pointless than Starfire’s destiny was Hawk and Dove’s search for Jason Todd. Both Hawk and Dove had dream visions of Raven calling for help, and Dove had the revelation that they needed to find Jason Todd, for some reason. None of their characters wound up contributing anything to the final battle with Trigon either. Thankfully, Titans seems to have learned from the mistakes of the past and seems poised to finally give Starfire the respect she deserves and a chance to shine.

Titans continues Thursday on HBO Max.
