Supergirl Series Finale Synopsis Teases The Return Of Familiar Faces

[ad_1]

The newly released synopses for the final episodes of Supergirl promise multiple guest stars and the return of familiar heroes and villains.

The synopses for the upcoming 2-part finale of the final season of Supergirl have been revealed, teasing the return of several familiar characters. Supergirl follows Kara Danvers, cousin of the Man of Steel himself, as she protects National City from world threatening villains. Kara’s group of allies has come to include Martian Manhunter, Brainiac-5 and Dreamer, among many other DC heroes. Melissa Benoist has starred as the kryptonian super heroine for 6 years, as the show has become a key part of The CW’s Arrowverse on screen, including regular yearly crossover events such as 2019’s Crisis On Infinite Earths event.

Supergirl’s current sixth season is set to be the show’s last. Season 6 has seen Kara and her friends tested as they face the 5th dimensional imp Nxylgsptinz, helpfully nicknamed Nyxly. Recent episodes have seen Supergirl in a race against time, trying to reach magical alien totems before her adversary Nyxly can get them for nefarious means. The season is starting to heat up as it heads towards its 20th and final episode in November.

Ahead of the release of the series finale, Comicbook has revealed The CW’s synopses for the upcoming episodes, which give fans a brief idea of what to expect from Kara’s final adventure. With both episodes set to premiere back-to-back, season 6, episode 19, “The Last Gauntlet” will see one of Kara’s loved ones taken hostage by Nyxly, who has teamed up with ultimate nemesis Lex Luthor (played again by special guest star Jon Cryer). Teasing a further guest, the synopsis promises an “unlikely ally” coming to help. Then, in the final episode of the show, season 6, episode 20, “Kara,” Supergirl will be joined by multiple “familiar faces” in a final battle against Lex and Nyxly, while her sister Alex prepares to tie the knot with her fiancé Kelly Olsen. Alongside the potential for an emotional send-off, the synopsis confirms that previous series regulars Mehcad Brooks, Jeremy Jordan and Chris Wood will all be returning to the show; as Jimmy Olsen, Winn Schott and Mon-El respectively. Read the synopses for the two-part finale below:

“THE PENULTIMATE EPISODE KICKS OFF THE TWO-HOUR FINALE FOR “SUPERGIRL” – In the penultimate buildup to the season finale, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and the super friends take drastic action after a loved one is kidnapped by Nyxly (Peta Sergeant) and Lex (guest star Jon Cryer). An unlikely ally steps in to help the team. The episode was directed by Glen Winter with story by J. Holtham and teleplay by Derek Simon & Jay Faerber.”

“THE EPIC SERIES FINALE BRINGS BACK FAMILIAR FACES AND FEATURES A BEAUTIFUL WEDDING – In the epic series finale, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) is joined by familiar faces from the past to help her stop Lex (guest star Jon Cryer) and Nyxly (Peta Sergeant) for good. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Kelly (Azie Tesfai) prepare to walk down the aisle. Mehcad Brooks, Jeremy Jordan and Chris Wood return for the series finale. The episode was directed by Jesse Warn with story by Robert Rovner & Jessica Queller and teleplay by Rob Wright & Derek Simon.”

The final episodes promise a culmination of Supergirl’s greatest adventures, with the potential of a full-size team-up of Super-friends new and old. All three confirmed guest stars have superhero identities that could come in handy in a final battle against evil. The event of Alex and Kelly’s wedding will also prove for an emotional climax for Supergirl fans, who have been following the characters for 6 years on screen.

Supergirl will surely be missed when the 6th season comes to an end. It will join Arrow, the first of The CW’s interconnected universe of shows, which also finished its run in 2020. Supergirl fans may be relieved by the possibility of Kara and her friends popping up again in the future as sister-shows The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Superman & Lois continue for future seasons. This may be the end of Supergirl, but the Girl of Steel could return in crossovers, as Chyler Leigh’s Alex Danvers is confirmed to appear in The Flash’s upcoming Armageddon event. For now though, the super-adventures are set to end, as Supergirl’s two-part series finale airs on November 9th on The CW.
