Superman’s Son Brings INJUSTICE Into DC Canon in Epic New Series

[ad_1]

The Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent is bringing the iconic setting of Injustice into the DC Universe’s continuity for the very first time.

The latest adventure of Superman’s son Jon Kent is taking him straight into the war-torn world of Injustice. An interview with writer Tom Taylor sheds a light on what challenges await the junior Man of Steel in the fan-favorite universe.

Fans of the Injustice series should prepare themselves because the iconic universe is crossing over with the DC Universe for the very first time. In an interview with DC, Tom Taylor, writer of the upcoming Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent, dropped the huge bombshell in the weeks leading up to the miniseries’ release. Taylor went over how the series would see Jon Kent facing off against Ultraman, the supervillain that kidnapped Jon and stole his childhood. But in Jon’s journey across the multiverse, he’s heading to the world that serves as the setting for the Injustice franchise.

Injustice for me is a very troubled time. I had so much fun on that book. Obviously, I was on it for years. I think I was originally hired for fifteen chapters, and I wrote over 150. But there’s a lot about Injustice that that rubs me up the wrong way. I don’t believe Superman, no matter what happens to him, can become that person. I don’t believe Wonder Woman becomes that person. So, for me, it’s a really interesting Elseworld, and throwing Jon Kent as sort of that beacon of hope and in a way, quite an innocent character and a character who wants the best for the world, throwing him into that world where his father has become a dictator gives us so much to play with. I’ve been talking about this story to all my friends who will listen for months, long before we knew where we were going with this.

It’s right at the core of it. Around Injustice 2: Year 5, which people know is around the game time. It’s a really exciting time, and it’s one of my favorite times to write as well—who’s alive during that time, the dynamics and what that means for Jon. Because it’s not just his father. There are other characters, other players, and other people that he knows in that timeline who are different. And seeing him interact with their different personas, and what’s happened to them, and how he hopes to help is a huge part of this story.

Jon is going to meet up with some familiar, but very different versions of his allies, such as Superman, Wonder Woman, and Damian Wayne. Taylor also confirms that this isn’t a simple drop-in to the Injustice universe, but that the world will play a huge part in what he and the rest of the creative team have lined up for Jon.

Injustice Is Officially Coming To The DC Universe

Adventures of Superman 1

The video game series Injustice presents an alternate version of the DC Universe that badly splinters after the Joker tricked Superman into killing a pregnant Lois Lane. Clark Kent killed the Joker in response and formed a totalitarian movement to end all crime in the world. The Regime forces Batman and a collection of other heroes in opposition to form the Insurgency and put an end to Superman’s reign. The game was highly popular, and in addition to a sequel, the franchise also included a comic tie-in series that was written, in part, by Tom Taylor.

Despite the overwhelming popularity to the franchise, Injustice was never explicitly canon to the DC Universe. However, that changed recently with the recreation of the multiverse in the event comic Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths. In fact, the Flash confirmed Injustice’s place in the DCU in Dark Crisis: Big Bang #1, which identifies Injustice’s setting as Earth-49. However, despite its place in the multiverse, there hasn’t been any interaction between the Prime Earth heroes and the Injustice world. But that’s all about to change with Jon Kent’s latest adventure.

Jon Kent is Integral to Injustice’s Next Steps

Adventures of Superman 2

Injustice is undoubtedly one of the most popular alternate continuities of the DC Universe, and at its center is a Superman going down a road few would expect. Jon Kent obviously has some experience with evil Supermen, as his past with Ultraman speaks for itself. As Jon prepares for his next adventure across the DC multiverse, his unique experience makes him the most logical candidate to help usher in the Injustice franchise to the official DC canon. Who knows what will happen when Jon sees his father as a dictator, but it’s certain to be engaging for fans in all camps. Readers can see the road to Injustice’s introduction for themselves in Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent #1, on sale March 12th, 2023.
