Ted Lasso Season 3: Release Date, Cast & Everything We Know

[ad_1]

The Ted Lasso season 3 release date is less than a month away, and the comedy’s loyal fanbase couldn’t be more excited. Based on a skit for NBC Sports, Ted Lasso quickly became one of the most popular and critically acclaimed comedy series on television. The show follows Ted Lasso, an American football coach hired to coach the fictional English Premier League team AFC Richmond, who plays “football” in the UK sense — meaning soccer. It’s revealed Ted was hired by club owner Rebecca as a ploy to spite her ex-husband and see the team fail. Ted’s contagious optimism, kindness, and lessons of accountability worked to win over skeptical players, staff, and fans.

Starring Jason Sudeikis, Ted Lasso is a surprisingly fresh and feel-good sports series that became a worldwide phenomenon. The series was celebrated for its honest tributes to football/soccer culture, its hopeful premise with its flawed and lovable characters, and its compelling ability to balance dramatic character depth with comforting humor. Truly revealing how beloved Ted Lasso has become, the series received 20 nominations at the 2021 Emmys and took home seven, including Oustanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Sudeikis and Outstanding Comedy Series for the whole crew. The anticipation for Ted Lasso season 3 is only growing, and here’s everything known so far.

The Ted Lasso season 3 release date is near, so every day brings new conversations with the cast and crew. However, the most important update is that, after season 3, Ted Lasso appears to be coming to an end. Reportedly having only three seasons was the plan all along for Ted Lasso. The series was originally pitched by star Jason Sudeikis and showrunner Bill Lawrence as a three-season arc, with the writers and creators mapping out the characters’ beginning, middle, and end stages based on three seasons (via THR). Lawrence revealed that the story of Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond will end in Ted Lasso season 3, whether they find a new story to tell with the character or not.

The writing room officially began working on Ted Lasso season 3 on September 13, 2021 (via THR). The cast and crew began filming in January 2022. However, the Ted Lasso season 3 release date was supposed to be in the summer of 2022. That didn’t happen, and fans have been waiting for a long time for the show’s return. With that said, the delays are finally over. The new official Ted Lasso season 3 release date is on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. Furthermore, Ted Lasso season 3 will have 12 episodes, which is the same length as the rollercoaster ride of Ted Lasso season 2.

After sealing a $1 million-per-episode salary for season 3, Emmy-winning lead actor Jason Sudeikis is confirmed to return for Ted Lasso’s last season. Emmy winners Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca) and Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent) as well as Juno Temple (Keeley) have also closed pay increases for season 3, so don’t fret that Keeley leaving AFC Richmonds means she won’t be in the show as prominently (via THR). It’s also confirmed writer/actor Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard) will be returning, hopefully, to actually reveal his name. The Ted Lasso season 2 finale sets up Nate’s villain arc by leaking Ted’s panic attacks and joining Rupert’s West Ham United as a coach.

Actor Nick Mohammed confirmed (via Collider) that Nate will be back to hammer out the conflict in season 3. Showrunner Bill Lawrence also told Deadline that both Dr. Sharon (Sarah Niles) and ex-Independent Trent Crimm (James Lance) will have significant roles in Ted Lasso season 3. Aside from the main cast and characters from Ted Lasso season 2, the supporting AFC Richmond players and staff are unconfirmed, but it can be expected that Phil Dunster’s Jamie Tartt, Toheeb Jimoh’s Sam Obisanya, Cristo Fernández’s Dani Rojas, and Anthony Head’s Rupert Mannion will return.

Ted Lasso Season 3 Story Details

With the new Ted Lasso season 3 release date, hints at the plot for the new season have started to leak. Ted Lasso’s Richmond AFC ended up promoted back into the Premier League, which means there will be tougher competition. Will Ted Lasso’s optimistic personality be enough for his team to beat the best soccer players that the Premiere League has to offer? Since Ted Lasso signed a deal with the Premier League, they can use real teams and logos, and there might be some major big-name player cameos as well, similar to HBO’s old series Ballers.

There is also drama to deal with on the show. Former kit man Nate left and joined West Ham as their manager. This means that he will end up going against Ted Lasso this upcoming season. There are also hints that some of West Ham’s team building might be shown, letting viewers see what Nate might have picked up from Ted Lasso. There will also be a good deal of Ted’s own drama as he deals with his personal issues back home.

The trailer is mostly a montage of clips from the season, starting with Ted Lasso and his team struggling and looking down and out, but then showing them fighting back and picking up success. Ted Lasso’s Premier League Licensing Deal Explained

A promo shot from Ted Lasso.

Ted Lasso’s football legitimacy is growing, with the fictional AFC Richmond’s real-life English Premier League system striking a licensing deal with the Apple TV+ series. The deal allows Ted Lasso to use the Premier League’s assets in the series, which include logos, trophies, and archival footage. The deal is worth approximately $680,000, which is a steep price but aptly increases the realism of Ted Lasso and its dedication to uplifting football.

By striking the deal, Ted Lasso will also have the opportunity to really connect with Premier League players and teams aside from referencing them as opponents like Chelsea FC or as rival teams like Jamie Tartt’s brief career with Manchester City. The deal with Ted Lasso season 3 and the Premier League coincides with the season 2 finale, which saw AFC Richmond finally promoted back to the league after a season-long relegation.
