[ad_1]

The Last of Us episode 6 features a seemingly meaningless scene in which Ellie shouts at an onlooking girl who will be vital in season 2.

Warning! This article contains spoilers for HBO’s The Last of Us episode 6, The Last of Us Part I, and The Last of Us Part II.The onlooking girl whom Ellie shouts at during The Last of Us episode 6 will prove to be majorly important going into season 2 of HBO’s show. While the scene at first can seem fairly meaningless and simply a way to show Ellie’s different upbringing to other children in this world, it actually has a much deeper meaning. The scene comes shortly after Ellie and Joel find Jackson, a community deep in the wilderness of Wyoming.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The community is where Joel’s brother Tommy lives, alongside the latter’s wife Maria. After Tommy and Maria invite Joel and Ellie inside for some food, Ellie notices another girl staring at her from across the canteen. Ellie, who had just been told to mind her manners, shouts at the girl wondering where her manners are. Despite not coming back into play in the episode, this scene is vital to the set-up of The Last of Us season 2 and Ellie’s future character arc.

The Girl Ellie Shouts At Is Dina From The Last Of Us Games

Dina Last of Us Part II

The reason why this girl is so important comes from The Last of Us Part II. The girl is none other than Dina, a significant character from the sequel game who will undoubtedly play a massive role in The Last of Us season 2. In the original games, the sequel picks up four years after the events of the first game. Due to the time jump, Ellie and Joel have slightly different lives than when they were last seen in The Last of Us Part I. Ellie has new friends and a crush on a girl named Dina who becomes very important to the story.

As has been evident throughout season 1 thus far, side characters have played vital parts in influencing Ellie’s story in The Last of Us, like Sam and Henry. This will only continue throughout The Last of Us season 2, should HBO’s show continue following the story of both games. One such character will be Dina, who is crucially important to Ellie’s character. Dina is a girl growing up alongside Ellie in Jackson who leaves a big impression on her as the beginning of The Last of Us Part II establishes that Ellie has a huge crush on Dina.

Why Dina Will Be Important In The Last Of Us Season 2

Dina, Ellie, and JJ in The Last Of Us

Ellie and Dina’s relationship evolves as the two become a romantic couple, which takes them through the game’s story. After tragic events see Ellie wish to travel to Seattle from Jackson, Dina accompanies her and the two go through a lot together. From brutal fights to tender moments and even Dina’s pregnancy, The Last of Us Part II situates Dina as one of the secondary protagonists of Ellie’s The Last of Us story. This explains the set-up of Dina’s character in The Last of Us episode 6, subliminally introducing her to the audience long before she becomes an important figure in Ellie’s life.

Will Any Other Season 2 Characters Appear In The Last Of Us Season 1?

Warning: Contains MAJOR SPOILERS for The Last of Us gamesDue to the subtle introduction of Dina in The Last of Us episode 6, the question turns to whether any other major characters from The Last of Us Part II could appear in the remainder of season 1. While only three episodes remain after The Last of Us episode 6, there are a few characters who will be important in The Last of Us season 2 that could make cameo appearances. The most likely is a character named Jerry, who serves as the Fireflies’ surgeon at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.

As Joel and Ellie will eventually make their way to the hospital so that the Fireflies can make a vaccine for The Last of Us’ Cordyceps infection via Ellie, it is hard to imagine Jerry – and potentially other Fireflies like Owen or Manny – not playing a role. While his character was not a part of The Last of Us Part I, the sequel retroactively made him very important to the story. This also paves the way for the other main character – besides Ellie – of The Last of Us Part II to make a cameo appearance: Abby.

Abby is the daughter of Jerry and a member of the Salt Lake City Fireflies. While again, she does not play a major role in The Last of Us Part I, her story was retrofitted into the ending of that game by The Last of Us Part II. With Dina’s appearance in The Last of Us episode 6, it is clear that co-creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin are already paving the way for The Last of Us season 2, with the remaining three episodes providing no bigger opportunity to do so than introducing the character of Abby.

New episodes of The Last of Us release every Sunday on HBO.
