The Flash Season 9 Is Bringing Back Two More Major Returning Characters

The Flash season 9, which is already bringing back multiple fan-favorite characters, has just revealed two more major players coming back this year.

The Flash season 9 is bringing back two more major players for the final season. As the Arrowverse’s longest-running series is getting ready to close out the curtains, The Flash season 9 is pulling out all the stops for its final season. Before Grant Gustin finishes his time as the Scarlet Speedster, Barry Allen is getting visited by multiple old friends as well as enemies from previous seasons. Not only are former The Flash characters guest-starring in season 9, but also players from other Arrowverse shows. Those include Arrow’s Stephen Amell and David Ramsey as Oliver Queen and John Diggle, respectively.

As The Flash season 9 is nearing the end of production, the Arrowverse drama is bringing back two additional characters. TVLine broke the news that Teddy Sears and John Wesley Shipp are officially set to reprise the roles of Zoom and Jay Garrick, respectively. Teddy Sears’ announcement is coming only a few months after Sears expressed interest to return as Zoom for the final season. The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace teased the following about Zoom and Jay’s respective returns:

How Will Zoom Appear In The Flash Season 9

Jay coming back for The Flash season 9 makes a lot of sense, as Shipp’s Golden Age Flash has recurred throughout the last few seasons. With Jay being an active player in the present but also in the future – as seen through Impulse and XS’ timeline – there are various ways the show can use him this season. Zoom, on the other hand, is a bigger mystery, especially after Crisis on Infinite Earths. Wallace has always stated in multiple interviews that Zoom is one of his top favorite villains, meaning it was inevitable for Hunter Zolomon to re-emerge at some point.

Because of Crisis on Infinite Earths, the Arrowverse continuity was rebooted, where things on Earth-Prime played out differently from Earth-1. The Flash has alluded to how post-Crisis had Zoom’s history rewritten where he was, in fact, always from Earth-Prime rather than Earth-2. Hunter still faced the same fate by becoming Black Flash after the Time Wraiths came for him. But since The Flash has tinkered with the timeline since the massive crossover, Zoom’s status could be completely different by now.

With all the time travel changes, that would make it easier for The Flash season 9 to have Zoom return to Central City one last time. However The Flash season 9 tackles his re-introduction, Hunter was always considered one of the show’s best villains. Since Jay will be back too, perhaps he and Hunter will get to have a showdown in some capacity. Given that Hunter held Jay as a prisoner in The Flash season 2 and used his name, that would certainly be a reason for the Golden Age speedster to battle the supervillain. Hopefully, as The Flash season 9 wraps production in March, The CW will give a first look at both their returns in the final season.
