The Mandalorian EPs React To Wild Grogu Darksaber Theory

[ad_1]

Exclusive: The Mandalorian EPs Dave Filoni & Jon Favreau react to a Grogu Darksaber theory and debate whether or not Grogu can be considered a Jedi.

The Mandalorian executive producers Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau react to a theory that ties Grogu’s destiny to the Darksaber. Din Djarin defeated Moff Gideon at the end of season 2, claiming the Darksaber as his prize, much to Bo-Katan’s chagrin. Bo-Katan had been searching for the Darksaber, hoping to use it to reunite the scattered survivors of Mandalora and take back their planet after the fall of the Empire.

In The Mandalorian season 2 finale, Grogu left Din to train as a Jedi with Luke Skywalker, but The Book of Boba Fett revealed that the Mandalorian foundling reunited with his adopted father. During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Filoni and Favreau reacted to a theory that ties together Grogu’s two paths as a Mandalorian and a Jedi through the Darksaber. Favreau and Filoni also debated whether Grogu is a true Jedi.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Screen Rant: Grogu was the first Jedi Mandalorian since the Darksaber was forged by Tarre Vizsla. Is the Darksaber tied to Grogu’s destiny as well as Mando’s?

Jon Favreau: That’s interesting. That would be a smart literary device.

Dave Filoni: Yeah, interesting. These are very good questions.

Jon Favreau: That doesn’t happen that often, although I would argue that Sabine is maybe a little bit…

Dave Filoni: I don’t know if I’d call her a Jedi, though. The interesting question is how you define when someone is a Jedi. That’s the real question, because the Jedi is a way of training. It’s a way of philosophy and being.

Jon Favreau: Well, Grogu trained with a Jedi.

How The Darksaber Can Tie Together Grogu’s Destiny as a Jedi and Mandalorian

Book of Boba Fett Grogu Jedi or Mandalorian

Luke Skywalker offered Grogu a choice: train as a Jedi and never see Din Djarin again, or leave and fully embrace being a Mandalorian foundling. Grogu chose to return to Din, but his force powers have improved greatly from his time with Luke Skywalker. While he may not be a full-fledged Jedi according to the code of the Jedi Order, he could still follow some of their teachings and beliefs while continuing to strengthen his connection with the Force.

This would essentially make Grogu the first known Mandalorian Jedi since Tarre Viszla. Viszla was the first Mandalorian to become a part of the Jedi order, and he forged the Darksaber. After his death, House Viszla stole the Darksaber from a Jedi temple. Over time, it has become a symbol of leadership, strength, and unity for Mandalore and has been used to bring together the clans throughout history.

Grogu has learned the ways of the Jedi first in Coruscant before the Jedi Order fell, and then from Luke Skywalker. The Mandalorian season 3 will likely see Grogu embrace his path as a Mandalorian foundling, with Din teaching him about what it means to be a Mandalorian. Din Djarin now wields the Darksaber, but Grogu might be the one meant to use the Darksaber to finally unite Mandalore after years of war and tragedy.
