The Witcher 3’s Leshen Becomes Halloween Monster In Awesome Painting

[ad_1]

A masterful painting is able to combine the Witcher universe with the Halloween season, turning the deadly Leshen into a Headless Horseman cosplayer.

A talented painter has turned the Leshen, an evil spirit featured in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, into a creepy jack-o-lantern just in time for Halloween. The Witcher 3’s Geralt is a supernatural warrior, capable of taking on extremely formidable opponents, but the franchise’s dark fantasy setting (adapted for video games by CD Projekt Red) contains all manner of horrific beasts, and many of them put up a serious fight. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt released back in 2015, but clearly the title continues to capture the imagination and act as inspiration for many.

The Witcher franchise, which consists not only of video games but also novels and a live-action series, contains numerous unsettling monsters ranging from shapeshifting Ethereals to zombified Rotfiends, to the Leshen forest spirits. The Witcher 3 is no different and sometimes goes even further, as The Witcher 3 even features a Doctor Who Easter egg that increases the horror even further by injecting the sci-fi franchise’s iconic Weeping Angels into the mix.

Witcher fan, masterful painter, and Reddit user Theoson celebrates Halloween by giving the Witcher 3’s Leshen forest spirit a jack-o-lantern makeover. The highly atmospheric piece sees Geralt of Rivia stalking into a candle-lit grotto. The Witcher is confronted by the iconic antlers of the Leshen, but instead of an animal skull it peers at him with a carved pumpkin visage. The painting perfectly captures both the Witcher universe’s tone, the creepiness of The Witcher 3’s Leshen, and the spooky Halloween atmosphere.

Since The Witcher’s Geralt hunts monsters for a living, a lot of care and thought has been put into the series’ monster design and variety. The mobile game The Witcher: Monster Slayer puts these deadly enemies on full display, with players exploring the real world to track and defeat virtual monsters. The Witcher 3’s Leshen itself is featured in the game, and other powerful monsters such as the Striga behave just as they do in the franchise’s established lore. For example, Strigas are meant to hunt at night, so players will not be able to encounter the creature during daylight hours.

While the Witcher franchise possesses a unique fantasy setting, the tone of every adaptation often leans towards the horror genre. Horrific and disgusting monsters are on full display, and intense violence is often featured along Geralt’s various journeys. Theoson was therefore able to perfect combine the Witcher franchise and the Halloween season, bringing to life an amazing painting that immerses the viewer into a ghastly atmosphere.
