The Witcher Showrunner Teases Blood Origin Elf’s Franchise Future

[ad_1]

The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich teases Minnie Driver’s mysterious Elf character’s future in the hit Netflix fantasy franchise.

Ahead of her debut, The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich teases the future of Minnie Driver’s Blood Origin elf character. Based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novels of the same name, the Netflix franchise centers on the titular monster hunter as he takes down various ravenous creatures across The Continent and getting wrapped up in world-changing destinies. The Witcher: Blood Origin will expand the franchise by taking viewers 1,200 years in the past and exploring such major events as the creation of the first Witcher, the Elven civilization in their prime, and the infamous Conjunction of the Spheres, which introduced monsters to the world and led to the fall of the Elves.

While speaking with Kultura (via CBR) to discuss the upcoming prequel show, Lauren S. Hissrich opened up about Minnie Driver’s future in The Witcher franchise. Humorously referring to her Elf character as “mysterious Elf,” the mainline showrunner confirmed her interest in bringing the character back for more after The Witcher: Blood Origin. See what Hissrich shared below:

I’d love to! To make it funnier, the character of Minnie Driver doesn’t really have a real name in the show. We call her the mysterious elf, aka Minnie Driver’s character. But when we meet her, she says she travels through time and space, that it’s her job to make sure this story isn’t forgotten. All the time, even now that we’re starting to write scripts for The Witcher season 4, we’re talking about how we can reintroduce this character. So I definitely agree with you and would love to meet her again. We’ll see Avallac’h and Eredin again, but I think she’s really fascinating. It would be a nice job for us.

Everything We Know About Driver’s Witcher Character

Minnie Driver in The Witcher Blood Origin

With only days remaining until its premiere, not much is known about Driver’s The Witcher: Blood Origin character, save for her appearance in the show’s trailer tying her to Joey Batey’s fan-favorite bard, Jaskier. The footage saw Driver’s character, previously believed to be named Seanchai, meeting with Jaskier in the hopes of getting him to continue the story of her people throughout the world, only for him to doubt the task presented to him. Considering the show is said to be set 1,200 years prior to the Henry Cavill-led series, it seems likely Driver and Jaskier’s scenes will be set closer to the “present day” setting of The Witcher, though one of her abilities could explain her potential franchise future.

How Driver’s Elf Can Return In The Witcher Franchise

One of the more interesting takeaways from Hissrich’s comments regarding Driver’s Witcher: Blood Origin Elf character is her ability to travel though space and time, seemingly establishing her as a time traveler always seeking to keep the story of her people alive. Given Elves are said to live for centuries in the world of The Witcher, this notion of Driver’s character traveling through space and time could simply mean her longer life cycle allows her to appear in a wide range of the Continent’s history, especially in comparison to Jaskier and the various humans living in it. However, with The Witcher season 2 exploring the possibility of alternate dimensions via the monoliths, it seems just as likely the prequel show can explore the concept of time travel.

With Driver’s Witcher: Blood Origin character seemingly situated more in the present timeline than the past, it does seem possible that she could return for the in-development The Witcher season 4. Though with few plot details currently known about the show past season 3, save for the already infamous recasting of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia in exchange for Cavill, there are two other spin-offs already in the works, including a second animated film and a family-friendly Witcher series, the latter of which could suit Driver’s storytelling Elf nicely. Only time will tell what the future may hold for her when The Witcher: Blood Origin premieres on Netflix on December 25.
