Upcoming Blumhouse film There’s Something Wrong With the Children reveals its trailer, led by two terrifying children as they disrupt a weekend trip.

A new trailer has released for There’s Something Wrong With the Children, and it promises to be a frightening affair. The 2023 release will be the third feature film from horror director Roxanne Benjamin, and will star Zach Gilford (Midnight Mass) and Amanda Crew (Silicon Valley). Written by T.J. Cimfel and David White, There’s Something Wrong With the Children tells the story of a weekend trip with a supernatural twist after a couple loses the two children who disappear into the forest overnight.

The first trailer for There’s Something Wrong With the Children, which is horror production company Blumhouse’s second 2023 release after M3GAN, was shared exclusively by Entertainment Weekly and is accompanied by a creepy rendition of the nursery rhyme “Ring Around the Rosie.” The trailer shows an eerie forest that tempts the kids who appear to march into an abyss in the ground. From there, it descends into madness as the adults of the film are ostensibly picked off in horrifying fashion by the two demonic-looking children.

Alisha Wainwright in There's Something Wrong With the Children

Announced in November 2021 as part of Blumhouse Television and Epix’s TV deal, There’s Something Wrong With the Children is set for digital release on January 17, 2023. This will be followed by an MGM+ release on March 17. It will be one of five Blumhouse films scheduled to release in 2023, including Insidious: Fear the Dark.

The trailer for There’s Something Wrong With the Children gives the first proper look at the movie since its announcement. It reveals that central couple Ben (Gilford) and Margaret (Alishia Wainwright) are tasked with babysitting for their friends, Thomas (Carlos Santos) and Ellie (Crew). Ben and Margaret wake up to discover the children, played by Briella Guiza and David Mattle, have gone missing, initiating a search in the nearby forest. When Ben finds them, they appear entranced and proceed to jump into a dark chasm. When they return, Ben seems to be the only one who senses that something’s wrong, but soon enough they reveal themselves to be deranged and murderous, playing into the dangerous children trope much like this year’s Orphan: First Kill.

Audiences can likely anticipate two chilling performances from the film’s terrorizing kids. The There’s Something Wrong With the Children trailer gives a glimpse into the nightmarish turn to come, with one scene showcasing a smiling, bloodied Guiza with a mysterious glint in her eye. The adults are all blood-soaked by the end of the trailer, which makes it questionable whether any of them will make it out alive; it also suggests that there will be plenty of gore. The trailer ends with titles reminiscent of Stranger Things own titles. Stranger Things is a show filled with supernatural events, so that may well hint at things to come in There’s Something Wrong With the Children.
