Beloved character Toad is transformed into a clicker in terrifying The Last of Us crossover art following Pedro Pascal’s viral SNL Mario Kart sketch.

Following his viral Saturday Night Live sketch blending the two projects, new The Last of Us fan art imagines Mario character Toad becoming a clicker. Based on Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic game of the same name, the HBO series centers on smuggler Joel as he sets across the United States with teenager Ellie to deliver her to a group of survivors who believe her the key to a cure for the fungus that wiped out the world. Scoring widespread acclaim, The Last of Us has set a number of records for HBO already and garnered an early season 2 renewal.

As the show continues to grow in popularity, former Teen Titans Go! art director Dan Hipp took to Twitter to share a unique piece of The Last of Us fan art.

The artwork imagines beloved Mario character Toad transforming into the terrifying clicker, one of the most memorable infected enemies from both The Last of Us game and the HBO series adaptation, seen for the first time in the record-setting episode 2. Check out the artwork above:

The Last Of Us Show Has Inspired Many Crossovers

Last Of Us The Mandalorian

While already an iconic property on its own, the lead up to The Last of Us show‘s release saw artists get creative in expressing their excitement for the HBO adaptation. The majority of fan art seen thus far have imagined crossovers between the series and Pascal’s other beloved title, Disney+’s The Mandalorian, many of which see Joel and the Star Wars characters meeting. Much of the Last of Us and Mandalorian crossover art have also highlighted the unique chances of Joel and Mando’s companions, Ellie and Baby Yoda, getting the opportunity to meet, all of which has proven to evoke wholesome feelings in those viewing it.

The most prominent Last of Us crossover has been that of a recent Saturday Night Live sketch during Pascal’s hosting stint on the show. The sketch imagines a darker twist on the iconic Mario Kart games, with Pascal playing Mario as he has to transport Princess Peach across a dystopian wasteland with the help of a shotgun-toting Luigi and proudly bisexual Toad, all of whom are attempting to outrun Bowser. Complete with faux negative reviews from Variety and The New York Times, the segment was met with rave reviews from audiences, many of whom have even taken to calling for Pascal to replace Chris Pratt in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie as the voice of the Nintendo plumber.

Though the majority of fan art has proven to be more on the adorable side, the Mario crossover art goes to show the more terrifying side of The Last of Us that gamers came to fall in love with well before the show’s premiere. With half of season 1’s nine episodes having been aired, it will be interesting to see what other crossover art work audiences come up from the rest of the series. In the meantime, audiences can look forward to The Last of Us episode 5 premiering on HBO Max two days early on Friday.
