Where To Watch The Boys: Gen V

[ad_1]

When The Boys launched on Prime Video in 2019, viewers didn’t quite know what to make of the show. Based on the comics of the same name, it’s part superhero series, part raunchy comedy, and part political satire. But The Boys is also completely watchable: fans were instantly invested in the plot and compelling characters.

Set in a world with superpowered heroes, a group that eventually bands together and calls themselves The Boys uncovers devastating secrets. Their favorite superheroes might not be as good-natured and honest as they thought. Behind the incredible feats of strength, good deeds, and literal masks, the Supes, particularly the main group known as The Seven, are merely puppets of Vought Corporation, nothing more than faces for a company that needs them to fuel its corporate greed and garner public support.

In the years since its debut, The Boys has not only earned six Emmy Award nominations but has also spawned several spin-offs, including Seven on 7, a web series, and The Boys Presents: Diabolical, an animated anthology series. Now, the third iteration in the family, Gen V, is poised to launch in 2023. And fans are excited to see the stories from a different perspective.

The Boys: Gen V, which was originally called The Boys Presents: Varsity, is not released yet. But when it is, it will be streaming on Prime Video, the same home as The Boys and Diabolical. However, the show will not officially be streaming until sometime in 2023.

When Does The Boys: Gen V Come Out?

Filming for Gen V began in May 2022 at the University of Toronto in Mississauga, a suburb just outside downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Later in the summer, more scenes were filmed at a Conservation Area nearby. Shooting ended in September 2022, as per the cast posts on Instagram.

Gen V does not yet have an official launch date other than sometime in 2023. With the story to run concurrently with The Boys, it’s likely that Gen V will debut shortly after, probably with one new episode weekly. But it’s possible Gen V could be released at the same time as The Boys given that the stories exist in the same universe and will intertwine.

The Boys was renewed for a fourth season in June 2022, the same month that season 3 was released. Based on previous season release dates, The Boys usually comes out between June and September, so fans can expect The Boys and possibly Gen Vbefore the fall of 2023.

Gen V is a series that will take place in the same shared universe as The Boys. In fact, the storylines will run concurrently with the show’s upcoming fourth season. The setting for Gen V, however, will be Godolkin University School of Crimefighting. In this post-secondary institution, young men and women who possess superpowers go to learn about the needs and desires of Vought and harness their powers.

Described as a Hunger Games-type environment, however, the kids stop at nothing to gain favor with Vought in their mission to make it to the top of the pack and potentially even be named the next member of The Seven. If the teaser trailer is any indication, this leads to plenty of blood, gore, and cut-throat tactics, both figuratively and literally.

Seth Rogen, who serves as a producer of The Boys, is also a producer of this spin-off series. The ensemble cast includes several actors who previously appeared on top shows like The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Jaz Sinclair and Chance Perdomo), Bridgerton (Shelley Conn), and Supernatural (Alexander Calvert), along with other well-known names like Clancy Brown and Patrick Schwarzenegger. Making appearances will also be a few main and supporting cast members from The Boys, including Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, Colby Minifie as Ashley, and P.J. Byrne as Adam.

Is Gen V Canon?

Yes, Gen V can be considered canon. It not only exists in the same universe as The Boys but will also follow a concurrent timeline — so much so, in fact, that events that occurred in The Boys will be referenced, in some ways, in Gen V. For example, the return of Soldier Boy in The Boys may present as a news headline that the students see in Gen V, along with the various stories surrounding his sightings and activities in New York.

Along with characters who will make crossover appearances on the show, Godolkin University has also (sort of) been mentioned already on The Boys, or at least referenced. In one scene, for example, Red River Institute was brought up as the orphanage where kids were sent to live by their parents if they did not meet certain Supe requirements. It is presumed that once these children age out of Red River Institute, at least some of them are sent to Godolkin where they effectively battle it out. Only the strongest survive.

Given that both shows are filmed in the Toronto area, chances are the same backdrops will appear throughout both shows, further linking them together in seamless unison. How far the storylines will cross, however, remains to be seen.
