Why Arendelle & Northuldra’s Conflict May Not Be Over In Frozen 3

[ad_1]

With Anna and Elsa living in Arendelle and Northuldra, respectively, Frozen 3 may dive further into the history of the conflict between both nations.

Frozen 3 has been confirmed to be in Disney’s future, and the unanswered questions from the conclusion of Frozen 2 imply that its plot may continue the conflict between Arendelle and Northuldra. The actions of Anna and Elsa’s grandfather, King Runeard, were revealed in Frozen 2 to be at the center of a bloody battle between the two kingdoms, and the union of Iduna and Agnarr is the reason for Elsa’s status as the fifth spirit of the elements. Still, these plots barely seemed to touch on the more profound history of Arendelle and Northulda, especially since the two sisters are now running each kingdom.

Frozen 2 ended with Anna being crowned Queen of Arendelle since Elsa had decided to abdicate her father’s throne to instead stay in Northuldra with her mother’s people. It seemed like a happy enough ending. However, given that these two kingdoms were at war with one another only a generation ago, this change in leadership went surprisingly smoothly. King Agnarr’s father and several other Arendelle people were killed in the battle that led to the Enchanted Forest’s curse. So, the fact that their queen suddenly left to join Northuldra instead has left a sizable plot for Frozen 3 to explore.

Frozen 3 Could Further Explore the Conflict Between Arendelle & Northuldra

Aside from the fact that King Runeard didn’t trust the Northuldrans, little more is known about how the conflict between the two kingdoms evolved. In Frozen 2, Elsa saw that the fear of magic that had plagued her life was deeply embedded in her grandfather’s heart. This tied into the first Frozen movie, where the people of Arendelle were easily turned against their queen because she had magic. They might have been won over—and they ultimately grew to appreciate her gift. Still, it’s hard to think that they would continue to feel the same way after she joined their past enemy nation.

For this reason, Frozen 3 could dive further into the conflict between Northuldra and Arendelle since the change in the royal lineup would likely have brought up some past issues. Perhaps the two sisters will dive further into the past to see where this came from. King Agnarr has long been criticized for how he handled Elsa’s magical gift, and since his relationship with his prejudiced father, King Runeard went largely unexplored, it could all come into play. The people of Arendelle could allow generations of fear to turn them against Elsa and her new country—especially if an old foe influenced them.

Frozen 3 Could See The Return Of Prince Hans

If the conflict between Arendelle and Northuldra were rekindled in Frozen 3, there would need to be a villainous mastermind pulling the strings. Since Arendelle was already turned against Queen Elsa in the past, it makes sense that the same individual would return to do it again—this time with an even stronger motivation. Prince Hans of the Southern Isles was sent home to his brothers after his deceptions in Frozen, but Frozen 3 may see a need to bring him back to close out the series (assuming that Disney plans to conclude the franchise as a trilogy).

With the Enchanted Forest freed, the Southern Isles may see fit to send an envoy to scope out Northuldra. Given the presence of magic and the long-running theme in Frozen that this often inspires fear, they wouldn’t like what they see. If Hans were to set his sights on taking out the “threat” that he would deem Northuldra, Arendelle could conveniently fall within his crosshairs. He would again attempt to use fear to turn the people of Arendelle against their past queen, which would place Anna in a difficult position.

Could Frozen 3 Put Anna & Elsa On Opposite Sides?

The first Frozen movie revealed that Anna and Elsa had been close when they were little, but the fear of Elsa’s powers caused their parents to isolate them, thus driving a wedge in their relationship. Of course, Anna’s act of true love removed this wedge, and by Frozen 2, they were as close as two sisters could be. Still, the damage done in the past didn’t just evaporate, and Frozen 3 may see the sisters deal with the poor choices of their parents in several ways.

Given their history, it would be interesting to see how Anna and Elsa would handle being on opposite sides of the conflict between Arendelle and Northuldra. Both Frozen movies centered on the damage that fear can do, but thus far, Anna has yet to ever be scared of her sister (Elsa was far more afraid of her own abilities). This begs the question of how it would affect their relationship if the two rulers were to be placed in such a difficult position. Frozen 3 is a Disney movie, so more than likely, Anna and Elsa would come out the other end even strong than they were before. Still, the conflict is an intriguing prospect.
