[ad_1]

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set to bring back Indiana Jones’ greatest villain for the final time, in the form of the Nazi Party.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is a triumphant return to Harrison Ford’s most iconic role, and the third time Nazis have been used as the main villains in an Indiana Jones film. Dial of Destiny is set to release in 2023, 42 years after the initial release of Raiders of the Lost Ark, and follows an older Jones during the Space Race between the U.S. and Russia when the United States would recruit former Nazis to aid in scientific developments. Since this is planned as the final Indiana Jones film, there are lots of callbacks to previous Indy films, including the return of some familiar villains.

After George Lucas avoided using the Nazis as villains in Temple of Doom, Dial of Destiny brings them back into the story. Nazis are very simple villains to set up since there’s no explanation required for why they’re evil. This leaves more time to focus on other characters, comedy, and action scenes where a more complex villain would take up space. It keeps the pacing quick, the movie interesting, and the audience loves to see the villain get punched right from the start. Using the same villain three times is more than just keeping the story simple though, and Nazis are a fitting villain for Indiana Jones to face.

Why Nazi’s Are Really The Ultimate Villain For Indiana Jones

Raiders of the Lost Ark was set in 1936, during the rise of the Nazi party. They were a natural choice for Indy to face, especially with their real-life obsession with historical artifacts. The Nazi Party would search the globe for powerful artifacts, so an adventurous archeologist armed with a whip and his wits made sense opposing them. Indiana Jones is also a very selfless character, he doesn’t chase artifacts like the lost ark or the holy grail for personal fame. He chases them to preserve their history and to continue to spread knowledge as a professor.

In Dial of Destiny, Indy is living during the time that the Nazi Party was integrated into democratic institutions, which should be a very large conflict for the character to face. Mads Mikkelsen’s Jürgen Voller is the Nazi officer helping to put a man on the moon, for his own desires. Since this is the last planned film in the Indiana Jones franchise, using a Nazi as the main villain one final time works as a nice bookend to the series.

What Nazis Mean For Indiana Jones 5’s Story

Nazis mean a return to form for the Indiana Jones franchise. After Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull struggled to pass on the torch, Dial of Destiny seems to be bringing the series back to what made it famous. The trailer has several scenes that pay homage to classic Indiana Jones scenes, and there will definitely be even more when the full film releases in 2023. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is bringing back Nazis one final time, and it’ll be exciting to see how Indy’s adventure ends.
