Witcher Season 3 Will Bring Back A Powerful Yennefer Ally You Forgot About

[ad_1]

The Witcher season 3 is bringing back an important Yennefer ally who briefly appeared in the first season and was quickly forgotten. Here’s who.

The Witcher season 3 has a couple of details to fix and a lot of stories to explore, and it’s bringing back a powerful ally of Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) that was quickly left aside in the series’ first season. After the not-so-exciting release of the prequel TV series The Witcher: Blood Origin, Netflix’s The Witcher will continue expanding with a third season from the main series, which will also be Henry Cavill’s final season as Geralt of Rivia before Liam Hemsworth takes over.

The Witcher season 2 saw Yennefer losing her powers and making a dangerous deal with the Voleth Meir to get them back, which put Ciri (Freya Allan) in even more danger. Geralt and Ciri arrived at Kaer Morhen to hide from the many groups that are going after Ciri, and by the end of the season, Yennefer got her powers back, the Voleth Meir joined the Wild Hunt, and half the Continent is looking after Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer. The three of them will have to join forces with other characters in The Witcher season 3 in order to stay safe, among them a forgotten season 1 character: Crach an Craite.

Who Is The Witcher Season 3’s Crach an Craite?

The Witcher Crach an Craite

According to Redanian Intelligence, Crach an Craite is coming back in The Witcher season 3, only this time played by Vikings: Valhalla actor Johannes Haukur Johannesson. Crach an Craite was played by Blair Kincaid in The Witcher season 1, and he only appeared in one episode, during the betrothal feast of Princess Pavetta, in which Duny was revealed to be bound to her by the Law of Surprise and later Geralt unintentionally bounded himself to their daughter, Ciri, through the same deal. In the series, Crach was supposed to marry Pavetta, but was interrupted by Duny’s arrival.

Crach an Craite made his debut in The Last Wish, and he’s also known as Sea Boar and the Wild Boar of the Sea. He’s the nephew of King Bran Tuirseach of Skellige and was mentored by his other uncle, Eist Tuirseach, who later married Queen Calanthe. Just like in the Netflix series, Crach was a contender for Pavetta’s hand, but it never happened, and after King Bran passed the throne to Eist, Crach became Jar of Skellige. Crach met Yennefer when he was a young man and they had a short affair, but he remained fond of her for the rest of his days. Due to Eist’s marriage to Calanthe, Ciri spent summers and winters visiting Skellige, and after Pavetta and Duny’s death, Calanthe had him swear a blood oath that he would always guard Ciri and provide help when called upon in regard to her safety.

What Crach an Craite’s Role In The Witcher Season 3 Could Be

Crach’s unit defended Cintra during the First Northern War and fought in the first battle of Sodden, after which he refused to sign the peace treaty with Nilfgaard. It was during the Second Northern War that he reunited with Yennefer and provided her with sanctuary while she looked for Ciri, who had been kidnapped. Yennefer, with Crach’s help, found a portal that took her from Skellige to Nilfgaard, and after being arrested and tortured, she and Geralt eventually rescued Ciri – and that’s how Crach kept his promise to Calanthe and remained an ally to his old lover.

Now, Netflix’s The Witcher has taken way too many creative liberties so far, so it hasn’t exactly followed the events from the books in chronological order. After the events of The Witcher season 2, the series might be preparing for the Thanedd coup in season 3, which is one of the events that contributed to the start of the Second Northern War, so the upcoming episodes could be setting up the war for season 4, and for that, it needs to properly introduce Crach. If he survives The Witcher season 3, Crach an Craite could become one of the most important characters for Ciri and Yennefer in season 4, unless season 3 jumps a couple of years and events and covers the war right away.
