NYC woman seen in viral video shouting racial insults at Asian restaurant patron

A foul-mouthed woman with a history of racist and anti-gay rants spewed racial slurs at an Asian patron outside a Manhattan restaurant during a confrontation filmed by the accosted diner in which she alleges the eatery’s workers sided with the abuser.

Denise Carino, who recorded the now-viral footage and posted it to TikTok last week, captured the ‘entitled Karen’ repeatedly yelling at her ‘Asian b****es are ugly.’

As of Wednesday morning, Carino’s video has drawn more than 560,000 views and has prompted another TikTok user, Cynthia Hinojoso, to identify the abusive woman in the video as Brittany Ciera Ortiz, who has been implicated in an earlier incident in which she fat-shamed patrons at a black-owned ice cream parlor.

Carino’s TikTok, which she uploaded on Friday along with the hashtag #StopAsianHate, starts with a selfie captioned, ‘I had a girl and workers telling me ‘you’re an ugly asian b****’ @empanadamamanyc don’t f***ing ever go there’.

When the video recording begins playing, Carino repeats what Ortiz had allegedly told her earlier, that ‘Asian b****es are ugly.’ Ortiz, dressed in an animal print outfit, repeats the offensive phrase.

Later in the video, Ortiz piles on more racial slurs at Carino, calling her ‘a f***ing ugly f***ing Mexican, f***ing Hawaiian, whatever the f*** you are,’ and a ‘Chinese little b****.’

Far from being embarrassed by her actions, Ortiz urged Carino to ‘get that on camera.’

Carino wrote in a caption superimposed over the video that Ortiz’s boyfriend was ‘egging her on.’

A restaurant manager later claimed that prior to the verbal spat, Carino, whom he described as intoxicated and disrespectful, had refused to follow workers' directions

Another caption called out workers at the restaurant on Ninth Avenue for allegedly supporting Ortiz as she ‘spit all the hate she had in her heart.’

Giovanni Morales, general manager of the Empanada Mama location at the center of the incident, told The Daily Dot that prior to the verbal altercation seen in in the viral video, Carino had refused to follow directions to wait for her food outside.

Based on interviews with workers and a review of security footage, Carino was allegedly drunk and ‘being extremely disrespectful’ to staff.

Morales claimed that the argument between the two women erupted after Ortiz stepped in when Carino began making fun of a security guard, and Carino accused her of using her white privilege.

The guard escorted both women outside, where Ortiz proceeded to make the racist remarks.

Morales said the security guard has been fired for failing to deescalate the situation but did not say whether staff sided with Ortiz.

Carino wrote in a comment that the manager of Empanada Mama has since contacted her to issue an apology.

In her video, Carino asked her followers to help her identify her abuser, and fellow TikToker @cynthiainnyc answered her call, posting a series of videos detailing her history with Ortiz.

According to Hinojoso, on August 8, Ortiz got into a verbal spat with a crowd  waiting in line outside a vegan ice cream shop in Manhattan.

Based on the information that could be gleaned from the screenshots of Ortiz's now-deleted social media accounts, Ortiz is a native of New York City of Italian and Puerto Rican heritage and works in fashion

Hinojoso caught a portion of the incident on video, which shows Ortiz cradling her ginger Persian cat in her arms while yelling : ‘you’re all 700 pounds, getting ice cream.’

At one point, she turns to a woman in the crowd and says: ‘You’re a lesbian.’

When Ortiz notices that she is being recorded, she strikes a pose and asks if she looks ‘cute.’

Someone in the crowd shoots back, ‘you look plasticky,’ and another person says, ‘no, you look mean.’

Ortiz’s boyfriend then approaches the group and threatens to ‘beat everyone up’ before ushering his girlfriend to a nearby door.

Hinojoso’s video shows a series of screenshots that purport to show Ortiz’s various social media accounts, but most of them appear to have been deleted.

An Instagram account dedicated to her cat, Stella, was still active as of Wednesday. It includes a series of photos showing the pampered feline in various outfits, accompanied by captions written from the animal’s perspective and addressing Ortiz as ‘Mommy.’

Hinojoso wrote that Ortiz has been known to harass the black-owned vegan ice cream parlor for displaying a Black Lives Matter sign.

‘This entitled Karen needs to be stopped,’ she wrote, invoking a pejorative slang term for a white woman perceived as demanding.
