Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing Of 27-Year-Old Man At Luxury High-Rise Apartment Building In Miami

Miami police are investigating the fatal stabbing of a Black man that took place just one week before his 28th birthday. According to NBC 6 South Florida, friends of the deceased victim identified him as Christian Toby Obumseli. Details surrounding the case remain murky as police have yet to name a suspect. However, authorities have confirmed the stabbing took place at One Paraiso. Its website described the location as a “chic contemporary high-rise condominium” located in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood.

Known Details

Officers responded to a call on Sunday night about a stabbed man at One Paraiso. When police arrived, they encountered a wounded Christian. Emergency personnel rushed Christian to JMH’s Ryder Trauma Center, but medical professionals pronounced him deceased at the local hospital.

Police have not named any suspects at this time. However, per NBC 6 South Florida, they did detain a woman at the scene. Reports say authorities took the woman in for an involuntary mental health evaluation. At the time of publication, the woman’s identity had not been released by authorities.

A separate report by CBS4 Miami says several residents at Paraiso received an email about a domestic incident on the property. The email did not give any additional details about a stabbed man.

Christian’s friends told local media outlets that the 27-year-old lived at Paraiso with his girlfriend. Apparently, the couple moved to South Florida from Texas within recent years.

A Brother’s Pain 

A man listed as @oha_jeff on Instagram identified himself as Christian’s older brother on Tuesday. Jeff shared a series of photos of and with Christian. In his caption, he spoke briefly about how Christian died.

“I honestly can’t believe I’m writing this,” Jeff wrote in the post caption. “It is with the heaviest heart I announce the murder of my younger brother, Christian (Toby) who was brutally killed on Sunday, a week from his 28th birthday — I’m truly at a loss for words. He didn’t deserve this. This is a lot to process. Thank you to everyone who has reached out. Your support is truly felt and appreciated during this devastating time. I ask the community to please pray for me and my family. Pray for strength for the long road ahead to justice.”
