Princess Kate Asks the Public to Help Pick a Christmas Carol For Her Concert

Princess Kate is asking for the public’s help with organizing the final details of her Together At Christmas concert this year.

On December 15, the Princess of Wales is hosting her second annual holiday carol concert at Westminster Abbey, and this time she’s leaving the final song of the night up to a popular vote. On Monday, the official Prince and Princess of Wales Twitter account retweeted a poll created by Good Morning Britain, writing, “Help us decide the final carol for Together At Christmas.” The morning new show’s tweet reads, “The Princess of Wales would like your help to choose the final carol for this year’s Together at Christmas service at Westminster Abbey, broadcast on ITV on Christmas Eve. Which is your favorite?” Carol enthusiasts who wish to participate can go to Good Morning Britain‘s Twitter account where they can choose one of three options Kate has already pre-approved: “Hark! The Herald,” “Joy To The World,” or the current favorite, “O Come, All Ye Faithful.”

The Together At Christmas concert unites members of the royal family with charity staff, community volunteers, frontline workers, military personnel and other important members of the community to “celebrate the joy that human connection can bring,” according to a release by Buckingham Palace. This year, the event will also feature a special tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth. The concert will highlight a few of the core values she embodied throughout her 70-year reign, such as empathy, compassion, and supporting others. The Palace noted, “These principles are shared and personified by the inspirational guests who have been invited to the Abbey from across the U.K. in recognition of their tireless efforts to help and care for those around them.”

The concert, organized by Princess Kate with the support of the Royal Foundation, is meant to extend the spirit of the holidays to all people, regardless of their faith, while blending traditional and modern seasonal elements. Westminster Abbey will also be decorated for the yuletide season in order to provide the perfect backdrop for these various musical performances from the Abbey Choir and other notable musicians. Last year’s guests were regaled by Ellie Goulding, Scottish singer Tom Walker, Leona Lewis, and Kate even gave her first public performance on the piano during a duet with Walker on the song “For Those Who Can’t Be Here.”

Walker previously said of his duet with the royal, “Without doubt, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I thought she absolutely smashed the performance; it’s not easy to just jump behind a piano with a bunch of musicians you’ve never played with before and record live takes to camera, but she completely nailed it.” He added, “She’s such a lovely, kind and warm-hearted person and she took the time to thank everyone personally for the opportunity to play together. It was a crazy pinch-yourself kind of day for me, to be in such a beautiful venue playing alongside the Duchess with my band and a string quartet. I certainly won’t forget that in a hurry!”
