Rebel Wilson says Meghan Markle is ‘not naturally warm’ as she recalls icy introduction

Rebel Wilson has shared her experience of meeting Meghan Markle for the first time, expressing surprise at her demeanour.

The Pitch Perfect actress and comedienne shared that she and her mum met the Duke and Duchess of Sussex while they were in Santa Barbara for a polo tournament that both parties were invited to by a mutual friend.

Wilson, 43, said that while Prince Harry “could not have been nicer”, Markle was “not as cool.”

“She wasn’t as naturally warm,” Wilson shared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Thursday.

In a picture taken on the day of the event of Harry, 38, and Wilson with her mum and fiancée Ramona Agruma, Markle, 41, is noticeably missing from the snap.

But Wilson does concede that Markle’s behaviour could have been due to her typically Australian mum asking “slightly rude” questions like, “Where are your kids?”

“And I’m like, ‘Mum, don’t ask her that,'” Wilson recalled, before joking, “Maybe that’s why she was like, ‘Who are these annoying convicts from Australia?'”

Wilson then reiterated that Harry was “lovely.”

Another reason for the actress’ icy reception may have been the jibe Wilson aimed at the couple when she hosted the 2022 BAFTA awards.

Wilson referenced the Sussexes’ infamous tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021 when introducing an award, saying, “From drama to fantasy, Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview had it all.”

“Unfortunately, that’s not nominated in this category, but some incredible films are. Let’s take a look at some of the most outstanding British films this year,” she concluded her introduction.

The Senior Year actress has a reputation for not sparing anyone in the royal family, having also taken aim at Prince William and Kate Middleton at the 2020 BAFTA awards.

As she took to the microphone on the night of the awards ceremony, Wilson deadpanned an intro that garbled the name of the venue, Royal Albert Hall.

“It is really great to be here at the Royal Andrew… uh, Royal Harry… no, sorry, Royal Phil- at this royal… palace place,” she said, in reference to the British royal family’s many scandals.

Interestingly, Markle and Harry emphasised in their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan that it was Kate who was “cold” at the sisters-in-law’s introduction.
