Sharon Osbourne Rushed to Hospital During Reality Show Shoot

Television stalwart and legendary music manager Sharon Osborne was rushed to the hospital on Friday night, according to a report from TMZ. The 70-year-old London-born spouse of iconic heavy metal star Ozzy Osbourne was on location at the Glen Tavern Inn in Santa Paula, California, shooting an unnamed paranormal-themed television series. The hotel, built in 1911, plays up its allegedly “haunted” rooms, and has been featured on the shows Ghost Adventures and The Dead Files. 

TMZ’s report says that emergency workers responded to a call on Friday evening and transported Osbourne to a nearby hospital. Specifics about her condition are unknown.

The ubiquitous television presence and author of five books seemed up to her usual, opinionated self as recently as Thursday, appearing on Piers Morgan’s show giving her review of the Netflix series Harry & Meghan. The star of The Osbournes, which surely will go down as a watershed moment in the development of reality television, called the six-part program starring Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “all very distasteful,” adding that she was “totally bored by the whining, the whining, the whining.”

In late August, Sharon and Ozzy announced that they plan to quit the United States and take up permanent residency in Britain early next year. “It’s just time. America has changed so drastically,” she said. “It isn’t the United States of America at all. Nothing’s united about it. It’s a very weird place to live right now.” Ozzy added, “I don’t want to die in America … I’m English.” He did joke, though, that if Sharon, very much the manager in the relationship, “said we’ve got to go and live in Timbuktu, I’ll go.”

Sharon Levy, as she was known at the time, took over management of Ozzy Osbourne’s career after her father, Don Arden, had him fired from Ozzy’s legendary band Black Sabbath in 1979. By 1982 the two were married, and she helped him grow a solo career of equal (if not greater) success. In the mid-1990s, Sharon concocted Ozzfest, a touring hard rock festival, which Ozzy headlined, that continued through 2018. She also managed other acts, including, for a time, The Smashing Pumpkins, Queen, Motörhead, the Electric Light Orchestra, Slade, and Lita Ford.

The Osbournes ran from 2002 to 2005, and showed Sharon as the Rock of Gibraltar in her unorthodox rock ’n’ roll family. In addition to hosting her own The Sharon Osbourne Show, she has appeared on The X Factor, America’s Got Talent, The Celebrity Apprentice, The Talk (from which she exited under a cloud of controversy), and The Masked Singer UK. She is also a colon cancer survivor. 

In 2019, Ozzy Osbourne was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The 74-year-old put out a new album, Patient Number 9, in September of this year. In 1991, he recorded the power ballad “Mama, I’m Coming Home,” (co-written with Zakk Wylde and Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister), which drew inspiration from his relationship with Sharon.
