r/netflix – Ads will ruin everything

[ad_1]

This is not a rant, but rather a frustrated and rational opinion/prediction I’m putting out there for discussion.

I currently, and reluctantly, pay $19.99 for the 4K tier, and, quite honestly, that’s already pushing it. The whole point of a service like Netflix was to be able to watch stuff without ads. The problem with cheaper ad tiers is that eventually they will raise prices even higher for non-ad tiers, with the asshole-ish logic that “if you want to pay less, then choose an ad-supported tier.” This will eventually price people with discerning taste out of these services once they’re pushed too far on price.

And it’s doubly irritating because the suits at Netflix couldn’t care less about such customers, who care about quality programming and aren’t necessarily rich enough to pay ridiculous prices not to be subjected to experience-ruining ads. They only care about profit (the CEO literally just said that: https://gizmodo.com/netflix-streaming-service-ads-sports-1849863157). I have been a Netflix customer for more years than I can remember, but this feels like the beginning of the end, which really and truly sucks.
