‘The Batman: Part II’: Andy Serkis Returning As Alfred Pennyworth

To the surprise of no one: Andy Serkis is officially reprising his role as Alfred Pennyworth for The Batman: Part II. Matt Reeves, who is co-writing and directing the upcoming Batman movie, confirmed his return as the iconic DC Comics character during a recent intervew with GQ.

Known for his motion-capture performances as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings and Caesar in the Planet of the Apes series, Andy Serkis made his debut as Alfred Pennyworth in The Batman. The character is the loyal butler and confidante of Bruce Wayne, a.k.a Batman.

The first installment of The Batman saw Robert Pattinson don the iconic cape and cowl, delivering a darker and more brooding version of the character. Fans were impressed with Pattinson’s Batman portrayal and many are excited to see what the Twilight alum brings to the role in the sequel.

Matt Reeves, who directed the first Batman film, will be returning to helm the sequel. Reeves, who is known for his work on the Cloverfield and Planet of the Apes franchises, has been praised for his ability to create engaging and emotionally complex characters. He is also co-writing the script for The Batman: Part II alongside Mattson Tomlin.

The future of the Batman series

The first movie ended with Batman apprehending the Riddler, who has flooded Gotham City. Although details about the plot for the sequel are being kept under wraps, it’s safe to assume that the story will pick up where the first one left off.

The heads of DC Studios recently revealed that The Batman: Part II is set to hit theaters on October 2025. The first movie opened in theaters in March 2022 and earned $770.8 million at the worldwide box office, a figure that makes it the seventh highest-grossing movie of 2022.
