Where Is Pandora in ‘Avatar’? How Far From Earth Is It?

The Avatar movies take place on Pandora and viewers might be wondering where the world is located in comparison to Earth.

The first film takes place in 2154 and the second one is set several years after that. It’s reasonable to think that space travel will be much more advanced in the future and the Avatar movies show what that could possibly be like.

The world is actually located in a completely different star system than Earth, one known as the Alpha Centauri A system.

So, how far away is Pandora?

It’s reported that Pandora is 4.37 light years away from Earth. If you travel at the speed of light, it would still take more than four years to travel there.

Pandora actually isn’t a planet – it’s a moon. It’s just one of 14 moons of the gas giant planet Polyphemus and there is less gravity on Pandora due to its smaller size.
