‘Wonder Man’ Description Teases Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Marvel Series

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding its superhero roster with a new Disney Plus series revolving around Wonder Man. Superhero insider Daniel Richtman has revealed a description for Wonder Man, teasing that the series will be a love letter to Hollywood while also delving into the possibility of satire and a deeper look inside show business.

According to the description, Wonder Man will follow the story of two struggling actors in the Hollywood of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a world where superheroes are real, the show explores what Hollywood looks like and how it functions. It promises to give a fresh perspective on the entertainment industry, which is already heavily influenced by the superheroes of the MCU.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays the role of Simon Williams, a.ka. Wonder Man, one of the two struggling actors. The second actor in the story is Simon’s brother, Eric Williams, who is rumored to be played by Demetrius Grosse. In the pages of Marvel comics, Eric goes on to become the villainous Grim Reaper.

Who is Marvel’s Wonder Man?

Wonder Man is a superhero from the Marvel Comics universe with a unique backstory. Created by Stan Lee and Don Heck in 1964, Wonder Man was originally a successful businessman who underwent a dangerous experiment to gain superhuman powers. However, his powers came with a weakness to ionic energy, making him vulnerable to attacks from other ionic-powered beings.

Wonder Man has been a member of several superhero teams, including the Avengers and the West Coast Avengers. He has also had a complicated romantic relationship with Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch. Andrew Guest (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Community) is leading the writing team of the Wonder Man series, with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings helmer Destin Daniel Cretton on board as an executive producer. Cretton is also expected to direct an unspecified number of episodes before moving on to the yet-to-be titled Shang-Chi sequel and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
