X-Men: James McAvoy On Potential Return As Professor X For Marvel Studios

[ad_1]

X-Men star James McAvoy has shared his thoughts on potentially returning to the role of Professor X for Marvel Studios.

James McAvoy made his debut as Professor X in 2011’s X-Men: First Class before reprising the role in three more movies Marvel movies from 20th Century Fox — Days of Future Past, Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. While McAvoy’s time as the leader of the X-Men came to an end after Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox, GQ recently asked the actor if he’d be willing to reprise the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“I’m very quick to say, ‘No, I’m done.’ Or ‘I’m not that bothered about coming back.’ Because you move forward,” McAvoy told GQ. “I’ve definitely not got the call. And if I did I would definitely not be telling you.”

While James McAvoy describes his work in the X-Men movies as one of his “most positive experiences” with a studio, with Days of Future Past being a career-highlight, the actor isn’t happy with how the series handled the relationship between Professor X and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto.

“My biggest criticism of what we did throughout the four movies was that after the first movie, we didn’t take advantage of the relationship between [Xavier and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto], which really formed the backbone of the first film,” he explained. “So it was like, why did we just eject that massive weapon?”

Now that Marvel is exploring the Multiverse in live-action, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender could once again get the opportunity to share the screen as their two X-Men characters, just like some of their former cast members. Patrick Stewart recently played a variant of Professor X in Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Meanwhile, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have signed on to reprise their roles as Wolverine and Deadpool in the MCU.
