F1 LIVE – Lewis Hamilton contract call, Coulthard calls out Toto Wolff

Fernando Alonso has explained how close he came to driving into the back of Lewis Hamilton at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Alonso had far more pace than his former team-mate on the hard compound and easily went past Hamilton in the latter stages of the race.

But the Spaniard has explained how one simple move from Hamilton could have resulted in disaster for the pair of them.

“I had momentum on the exit. I committed. Luckily Lewis didn’t close the door otherwise I would have hit his rear wing,” he said.

“You either do it like Lewis, and don’t close the door, or like Carlos Sainz – you close the door, then you are weak on the exit.”
