Young Sheldon Failed To Answer A Big Paige/Sheldon Cliffhanger Question

[ad_1]

Young Sheldon moves on from Paige Swanson’s story to focus on the Coopers without answering a big cliffhanger question about her and Sheldon.

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Young Sheldon season 6. Young Sheldon season 6 leaves one big question about Paige and Sheldon that the show still needs to answer in the future. The Big Bang Theory prequel reunited Sheldon with his fellow child prodigy for a night of college party hopping. This marked Paige’s return to Young Sheldon since her last appearance in the 100th episode. Instead of getting the help that she needs, however, the troubled kid is in worse shape. After dropping out of school, she is left without a purpose and acts out by willingly endangering herself.

The way CBS has been crafting Paige’s arc is heartbreaking, especially considering how much potential she had when she was first introduced. Functioning as a cautionary tale, Paige shows how dark TBBT could have been if Sheldon didn’t meet Leonard and the rest of the Pasadena gang. Since Paige wasn’t mentioned in The Big Bang Theory, however, Young Sheldon has some creative wiggle room in terms of developing her story moving forward.

What Happened To Paige After Spending The Night In Sheldon’s Bedroom?

As the focus shifts to Mandy giving birth, Young Sheldon didn’t have the time to show the aftermath of Paige’s night of partying. The Big Bang Theory prequel jumped forward in time and skipped the immediate ramifications of her actions. For context, after Missy talked some sense to her troubled friend, she and her twin ended up bringing Paige back to Sheldon’s dorm room. Passed out drunk, Paige spent the night on the boy genius school accommodations, although not without some grumbles from him. In fact, adult Sheldon’s comment not only caused Young Sheldon to break TBBT‘s timeline but also confirmed that he still has some hang-ups about that night.

Considering Sheldon’s feelings about having to host Paige in his bedroom overnight in the Young Sheldon season 6 episode “A Frat Party, a Sleepover and the Mother of All Blisters,” it’s curious what their morning-after interaction was like. Since Paige occupied the room, Sheldon may have been forced to spend the night elsewhere. Otherwise, Paige could have woken up in the middle of the night and snuck out without saying goodbye. Regardless, it’s a lingering mystery that Young Sheldon still needs to address moving forward.

Sheldon wasn’t exactly happy about finding Paige crashing every college party happening around East Texas Tech when they reunited in Young Sheldon season 6. Despite this, he followed her around, allowing The Big Bang Theory prequel series to highlight his humanity; the boy genius wasn’t also about to leave her alone, especially since it was clear that she was trying to get herself in trouble. So while he attempted to fight Missy for wanting to leave Paige with him, chances are that he was also well aware that he wasn’t going to let her spend the night on her own without any companion.

It’s imperative that Young Sheldon delves deeper into Sheldon’s mindset while the whole Paige snafu was happening. While his fellow child prodigy neither appeared nor was referenced in The Big Bang Theory, their relationship in the prequel changes some aspects of the nerd-centric sitcom, specifically the way his romance with Amy in The Big Bang Theory is perceived. For starters, Sheldon wouldn’t even let Amy sit on his bed right after he confessed being in love with her but for some reason, he allowed Paige to spend the night in his dorm room.

What Paige’s Cliffhanger Means For Young Sheldon

Paige has become an integral part of Young Sheldon‘s storytelling. Unlike her previous appearances, however, her latest one doesn’t have a definitive ending. It’s unknown what happened to her after Missy left her in Sheldon’s room. Perhaps leaving her fate uncertain is an intentional creative move from CBS as it means that she needs to return. It could even be the narrative opening needed to reincorporate her into the family sitcom. Whatever the reason is, it’s highly likely that it isn’t the last she’s seen in Young Sheldon. Hopefully, however,, when she re-emerges, she is in much better shape than the last time she made a cameo.
