Firefighters battle 3 separate fires across DFW as arctic blast hits area

DALLAS — The snow and below-freezing temperatures brought by the arctic front haven’t stopped fires from happening around Dallas-Fort Worth Thursday morning.

Firefighters around the metroplex have responded to three separate fires since this morning, an apartment fire and a house fire in Fort Worth, and a house fire in Dallas. 

The Dallas house fire was from a one-story residence in the 6400 block of Royal Lane, where a fire was coming from the garage. When crews arrived on scene, the blaze had reached the attic of the home. 

It was extinguished after an hour, No injuries have been reported, but firefighters said the damage to the home has left it uninhabitable. 

Dallas Fire-Rescue said the cause of the fire was accidental due to a possible electrical shortage in the garage. 

The Fort Worth house fire was through the roof of a one-story home in the 3500 block of Westfield Avenue. The apartment fire was in the 2200 block of Capri Drive. 

There are many potential fire hazards to keep in mind in the winter when trying to keep warm. Particularly with space heaters. These can lead to house fires if used incorrectly. Space heaters should be kept at least three feet away from flammable objects and pets. 

Fireplaces should also be cleaned out before attempting to start a new fire in them to warm up. 

Gas-powered generators should also never be used indoors to keep warm, neither should grills or barbecue pits.
